‘What do you mean?’ – Savage hits back at ‘Pathetic’ Sutton claim on Rangers
Chris Sutton has questioned the desire of Rangers supporters following a “pathetic” draw against Dundee United on Saturday.
The struggling Gers picked up a point against the team in fourth place on 23 November after Vaclav Cerny made it level in the 66th minute.
The result leaves Rangers eight points behind Aberdeen and 11 off leaders Celtic at the top of the table.
Following another disappointing display, Sutton did not hold back with his analysis of things both on and off the pitch as he said on BBC’s 606: “We are not even in December – 11 points behind Celtic.
“It looked to me like a lot of the Rangers fans could not be bothered to go and watch their team. It was a pathetic draw against Dundee United yesterday for Rangers. Is it time up for Philippe Clement?”
Robbie Savage was quick to jump to Rangers’ defence, though, as he responded: “What do you mean a pathetic draw? Are Dundee United not very good? Are they bottom? They are fourth – it’s third vs fourth.”
However, the former Celtic man Sutton stuck to his guns as he clarified: “Rangers fans expect better. It was a poor performance once again.”
How long does Philippe Clement have at Rangers?
After Saturday’s game, there was immediate discussion around whether the Rangers boss would be sacked but at this stage, he is still clinging to his job with reports that discussions surrounding his future haven’t been held at Ibrox yet.
However, it is surely just a matter of time for the 50-year-old now as his side are struggling to shown any sign of improvement and progression on the field.
Although it was a game between third and fourth place in the table, given the history of the Scottish Premiership side, results like these fall well below expectation, as does competing as a side sat third in the table and well away from their opponents at the top end.
It’s not hard to see why supporters are feeling lethargic during their trips to Ibrox with a long season ahead that and their side, as it stands, showing no immediate signs of improvement.
