Ten takeaways from the NFL’s three Thanksgiving games
The NFL’s slate of Thanksgiving games this year included the Detroit Lions defeating the Chicago Bears, 23-20, the Dallas Cowboys getting past the New York Giants, 27-20, and the Green Bay Packers flattening the Miami Dolphins, 30-17.
Here, DAZN News looks back at all the fireworks and what we learned from them with the 10 takeaways from the NFL’s Thanksgiving games this year.
Jordan Love has phenomenal chemistry with his wide receivers
Talk about spreading the wealth, Jordan Love is one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks at diversifying his pass portfolio by targeting and finding multiple receivers.
Thanksgiving night he was at it again, distributing the wealth between Tucker Kraft (78 receiving yards), Josh Jacobs (74 receiving yards), Christian Watson (67 receiving yards) and Dontayvion Wicks (30 receiving yards). It was so good for Love and the Packers that Jayden Reed, who he found for just 24 yards receiving, finished with two touchdowns.
Josh Jacobs is a force with finesse
Watching Jacobs fake out his defender on this play in the open field is the kind of finesse that makes him a full load to deal with out the backfield. Not only can he juke and dance, whether rushing or receiving, but he can also be a bruising back whenever he needs to be.
Tyreek Hill’s concentration is uncanny
Yes, that the game was pretty much out of reach by this point helped Hill. However, this level of heads-up concentration is just part of why the wide receiver is so great.
He makes this look easy but it’s clearly not. Although the play was very much a bang-bang play, Hill tracked the quick sequence as if it was in slow motion, coming up with the touchdown grab.
Do you believe Micah Parsons and the Cowboys?
The Cowboys’ victory over the dismal Giants improves Dallas to 5-7 this season. And sure, Parsons makes a passionate prediction here, but can the Cowboys really generate a big rally to make their season meaningful?
Well, that remains to be seen. The Cowboys still must host the Cincinnati Bengals, visit the Carolina Panthers and host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, before wrapping up their NFL season on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles and at home against the Washington Commanders.
Think they’ll turn things around and make a run?
An absolutely brilliant play by DeMarvion Overshown
Overshown really batted this ball up to himself, hauled it in and took it to the house for an interception return for the touchdown.
Now, the question is can it be the type of play that sparks momentum for the Cowboys moving forward?
The Detroit Lions might be the best team in the NFL
Whether it’s the speed and power that Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery frustrate defenses with, the steady guidance of Jared Goff, or the big-play theatrics of Amon-Ra St. Brown, the Detroit Lions can be a demoralizing team for squads to face. They just hit you from so many angles.
Plus, with the Thanksgiving win, the Lions become the first team this season to generate 11 wins.
All this being said, it’s really time to seriously consider the Lions being the best team in the NFL. Of course, the defending back-to-back Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs (10-1) might have a thing to say about this, just like the Buffalo Bills (9-2) and the Philadelphia Eagles (9-2) but the Lions have been sensational.
This play didn’t work out but it was ultra creative as the Lions’ imagination is stellar
This wrap-around to offensive tackle Penei Sewell didn’t yield the desired results but it was very imaginative and Detroit does a better job than most when it comes to taking chances. It’s just that this particular play didn’t pan out.
But their creativity is on display weekly and that could pay dividends during the playoffs.
Jamo really hurdled a defender
In one word: Awestruck. That’s how Lions’ wide receiver Jameson Williams left football fans watching him hurdle his defender cleanly. We already mentioned how potent the Lions are.
This is dynamic athleticism to the 10th power — the kind that could give the Lions an edge over the competition as the playoffs near.
The truth about the end of the Lions-Bears game
Bears’ rookie quarterback Caleb Williams lost track of time. It’s as simple as that. He had thrown three second-half TDs to pull his Bears closer to the Lions.
However, this last play was badly managed by the rookie.
The Bears lost but Caleb Williams made things interesting and will be a future force
The Bears were outmatched by the Lions, down 16-0 at the half. But Williams, the top overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, made things interesting in the second half as he threw for three touchdowns over the final 30 minutes, finishing with 256 passing yards in the proess.
Despite the Bears being 4-8 in another lost season, Williams is a bright spot to build around toward changing the team’s future quickly.
