Rangers
I could have moved to Rangers six years ago, but I signed a £65 million deal to play at Ibrox instead.
Don’t believe the hype; Tottenham Hotspur isn’t exactly without choices, even though they do have a number of injury issues in their roster before their Europa League trip to play Rangers.
Philippe Clement has bemoaned the disparity in wealth between Rangers and their Premier League rivals, believing Spurs to be “one of the best teams in the world.”
Rangers supporters can anticipate seeing some of the team’s best players in Europa League action, even though up to eight Tottenham players are doubtful for the match at Ibrox.
However, even though players like England international James Maddison and Korea icon Heung Min-Son will make headlines, there is one player who might have ended up at Rangers if circumstances had been different back in 2018.
Dominic Solanke was a target for Rangers.
Think back to the summer of 2018 and you’ll recall Steven Gerrard’s electric presence at Rangers Football Club.
Rebuilding a team and club in chaos was the Liverpool legend’s maiden attempt at managing a top team at Ibrox.
Gerrard did this by pursuing elite young players from the Merseyside club’s academy, with players like Ryan Kent and Ovie Ejaria eventually relocating to Ibrox.
However, Rangers apparently intended to sign Dominic Solanke, another forward who was heavily linked, on loan in Glasgow.
Throughout the summer of 2018, Rangers were connected to Solanke, who had recently joined Liverpool from Chelsea, but the Reds ultimately managed to hold onto the gifted forward.
As they say, the rest is history. Six months later, Solanke completed a £17 million move to Bournemouth.
The Spurs forward is praised as “unbelievable.”
After more than six years since Dominic Solanke was first linked to Rangers, the England international may finally get to play at Ibrox.
This is because, after dominating the Premier League with Bournemouth, 27-year-old Solanke secured a £65 million transfer to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.
Solanke is considered one of the world’s top English strikers and has returned seven goals since that move.
If Rangers want to defeat Spurs in the Europa League, they will need to silence Dominic Solanke.
The Tottenham Hotspur star has been praised by Ange Postecoglou as a “unbelievable” talent in the past, and Solanke is certain to play against Rangers at Ibrox.
After Solanke scored twice in a 4-1 victory against Aston Villa in November, Postecoglou told the Independent, “I just think the enormous effort he put in on Wednesday night to help us win a game of football, not just physically but mentally, and his capacity to help the team in every way he can.”
It’s simply incredible to support that today with such a tremendous effort once more against a team that is rather challenging to play against.
“Yeah, the goals are fantastic, and as a striker, I’m sure he enjoys scoring a few goals, but even if he didn’t, I can’t say enough good things about what he is doing for our club right now.
“And may it last a long time because his style of play only improves us as a team.”
Rangers star set for international debut after ‘impressing’ controversial management.
Rangers star Connor Barron is set to make his Scotland national team debut for the third time.
Following his summer transfer from Aberdeen to Rangers, the 22-year-old has gained his first direct call-up to the Scotland squad.Rangers star set for international debut after ‘impressing’ controversial management.
However, Connor Barron has previously been involved in Steve Clarke’s Scotland team, having received two late call-ups owing to late call-offs.
Barron, who has yet to make his Scotland national team debut, hopes to put on the dark blue jersey in the coming week after ‘impressing’ the Scotland manager.
Connor Barron wins his first Scotland call.
Connor Barron has been a constant presence for Rangers, appearing in all 20 of the club’s games this season, including 18 starts.
The kid has had a steep learning curve since transferring to Ibrox, but Barron has earned the praise of supporters for his energetic, determined, and all-action displays.
Rangers fans are watching the midfielder’s progress in real time, as he is a positive passer who has injected vitality into an otherwise lethargic midfield.
Connor Barron now appears to be on the verge of taking the next step in his football career, with his first direct call-up paving the way for minutes in the coming week.
Scotland will play Croatia at Hampden before wrapping out a disappointing UEFA Nations League campaign away to Poland.
Steve Clarke is ‘impressed’ by Rangers midfielder
Given the circumstances, Scotland’s chances of progressing are slim, as the country is currently ranked last in UEFA Nations League A Group One.
As a result, the next few games, notably the encounter against Poland, could provide an opportunity for Steve Clarke to experiment with his underperforming team.
While Scotland drew 0-0 with Portugal last time out, with Rangers defender John Souttar named Player of the Match, Steve Clarke’s team has only won one of its last 16 games.
