Rangers are set for “sweeping changes” in the boardroom as Ibrox investors get ready to sell their stakes at the Scottish Premiership club.

Former Rangers chairman Dave King has previously admitted that fresh investment is required at Ibrox in order for the team to progress after seeing the team fall well behind Celtic since winning the 2020/21 league title under Steven Gerrard.

After 26 matches, Rangers are 13 points behind their Old Firm rivals in the Scottish Premiership while their hopes of a domestic trophy are also out of the window having lost in the Premier Sports Cup final last year and being dumped out of the Scottish Cup by Queen’s Park earlier this month.

49ers Enterprises close in on huge deal to rescue Rangers

Rangers Review journalist Chris Jack reported on Wednesday (19 February) that Paraag Marathe is leading a consortium in a bid to seize control at Ibrox.

It is understood that Marathe is among a group of American investors who are vying to complete a “multi-million pound” takeover in Govan.

Marathe is the president of 49ers Enterprises, who are the investment arm of NFL franchise San Fransisco 49ers and the owners of English Championship leaders Leeds United.

Jack claims that discussions between 49ers Enterprises and Rangers shareholders have been going on for months with multiple Ibrox investors ready to “cash in on their stake and sell up to the American money men”.

Leeds chairman Marathe is reportedly looking to “claim key boardroom seats” alongside those who are working with him in their takeover bid.

How much are 49ers Enterprises worth?

There’s no denying that the investment vehicle of the San Fransisco 49ers is one of the biggest sports empires in the world.

On top of owning one of the most well-known NFL franchises, Marathe and co also own Leeds, one of the biggest clubs in England and easily the biggest outside of the Premier League.

There’s no denying that it would be a huge proposition for a company to own both Rangers and Leeds, two of the United Kingdom’s most historic and well-known football clubs.

Leeds are flying high at the top of the Championship and look well on course to win promotion to the Premier League with one of the most exciting squads the English second tier has ever seen.

Club Owner(s) Estimated combined net worth
QPR Lakshmi Mittal $15billion
Leeds 49ers Enterprises & Red Bull $6.7billion
Stoke John Coates $4.3billion
Bristol City Stephen Lansdown $2.6billion
Sunderland Kyril Louis-Dreyfus & Juan Sartori $2.1billion

While the 49ers haven’t spent fortunes on improving Leeds, they certainly have the means to.

According to Forbes, 49ers Enterprises ranked as the 11th most valuable sports company in the world in 2023 with a net worth of $5.97billion.

There’s no denying that Rangers fans will be thrilled to see their side get even a small slither of that wealth to improve their squad.
