“Meetings have been reached.” The Rangers CEO is certain about Philippe Clement’s dismissal.

Rangers’ root to branch review of the football club is one that could take some time given the problems on and off the field. 

Patrick Stewart has confirmed that a sporting director will be appointed and why Philippe Clement is still the Rangers manager.

The CEO’s interview with RTV won’t have gone down well with some, however, a few of the social media myths have been put to bed, including one possible suggestion for Clement not being sacked.

European football seems to be why Clement clings onto his Rangers job, even if the defeat to Queen’s Park was branded ‘disastrous’ by Stewart.

One excuse that was offered previously was the financial situation at the club, something that Stewart vehemently denies:

“I’ve said consistently now, we are not refusing to make changes because of finances.

“So, all I can do is reiterate that, but that’s absolutely not the case. To keep somebody in position to avoid a termination payment, that’s just a false economy.

“So, that’s not a way to run a club and that’s not what we’re doing.

“Decisions have been made for the long-term interest of the football club, not to save money.”

How much would it cost to sack Clement?

Stewart didn’t quite spell it out, however, Clement has been retained because of the progress that has been made in the Europa League with a Rangers squad that still needs a lot of work.

This might not be acceptable for fans, but with so many other areas of the club needing attention, it is understandable – for now.

Reports have suggested that it would cost £1.2m to relieve Clement of his duties, around the same price as a new signing.

As for being around for the long-term, even a run of good results, wins in Old Firm derbies and an extension of the Europa League campaign might not be enough.
