David Moyes move goes down badly with West Ham board ahead of exit – report

The West Ham United board weren’t happy with outgoing manager David Moyes after his decision to ban Tim Steidten from certain areas, according to The Athletic.

The move went down badly in the boardroom after Steidten was restricted from the dressing room and training ground, a decision made in the wake of the search to replace the Scot.

West Ham had been actively seeking a new manager before agreeing on a deal for former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui on 6 May and only announced that Moyes would be departing the club at season’s end on the same day.

What does Tim Steidten do at West Ham United?

West Ham technical director Steidten has only been in post at the London Stadium since the start of this season, but right from the off, his relationship with Moyes was not always perfectly aligned.

Steidten’s four first-team signings during his time at the club – Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Mohammed Kudus – have all been fairly successful, but the January arrival of Kalvin Phillips on loan, sought by Moyes rather than the German, has not had the desired effect.

The uncertainty over Moyes’ future increased in recent months as the Irons’ Premier League form began to take a turn, and Steitden began the mission to find a replacement for the Scot.

Paulo Fonseca was linked, Hansi Flick was spotted at the London Stadium, and Ruben Amorim spoke to club executives, but the eventual choice of Steidten was Lopetegui, who reportedly agreed a deal to succeed Moyes on 6 May.

With his replacement finally lined up, Moyes was confirmed to be leaving the club at the end of this season, and although some on the board regret the highly-publicised nature of their search, Steidten will be looking forward to a new face in the London Stadium dugout.
