Cameron Calhoun, a promising cornerback from Cincinnati, Ohio, has officially joined the Alabama Crimson Tide football program. His journey to Tuscaloosa reflects a blend of talent, adaptability, and determination.

High School Career

Calhoun attended Winton Woods High School, where he distinguished himself as a three-star recruit. His athletic versatility was evident, excelling not only in football but also in track and field, particularly in hurdles and relay events. Initially, Calhoun committed to West Virginia, later switched to Cincinnati, and ultimately signed with the Michigan Wolverines.

Collegiate Path

  • Michigan (2023): In his freshman year, Calhoun appeared in two games for the Wolverines, contributing to their National Championship victory. Seeking more playing time, he entered the transfer portal post-season.
  • Utah (2024): Transferring to the Utah Utes, Calhoun’s role expanded significantly. An early-season injury to a starting cornerback opened the door for him to become a key player in the secondary. He recorded his first collegiate interception in a win over Utah State and finished the season with 21 tackles, nine pass breakups, and one interception. His performance garnered attention, leading him to enter the transfer portal again on December 10, 2024.

Joining the Crimson Tide

On December 18, 2024, Calhoun committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Defensive coordinator Kane Wommack expressed enthusiasm about Calhoun’s addition, highlighting his physicality, versatility, and the mentality that aligns with Alabama’s standards. Wommack noted, “Cam walked into the door with a mentality that he belonged at Alabama. Typically to me, those are the guys that’ll be successful here.”

Impact and Expectations

Calhoun’s arrival addresses critical needs in Alabama’s secondary, especially with the departure of key players like Malachi Moore. His experience and skill set are expected to contribute immediately, with the potential to play multiple positions in the defensive backfield. His track record of adaptability and performance under pressure suggests he will be a valuable asset to the Crimson Tide’s defense in the upcoming season.
