Celtic pair snubbed from South Korea squad as boss says ‘no explanation’ needed
Celtic duo Oh Hyeon-gyu and Yang Hyeon-jun have been left out of the South Korea squad as caretaker boss Hwang Sun-hong made his first selection.
Tottenham legend Jurgen Klinsmann was sacked after a poor Asian Cup and replaced by the caretaker boss. With a World Cup qualifying double header against Thailand coming up, Hwang has confirmed his first squad and there is no room for the Hoops pair in it.
Instead, 33-year-old Joo Min-kyu, who has spent his entire club career in his homeland, is included. But the interim boss insists his gal record in the K-League is all the justification he needs for that decision. He said: “We need firepower. Joo has scored over 50 goals in the K League in the past few seasons. There is no other explanation required.”
Oh has 11 caps for his country and is yet to score while he has only appeared in one of Celtic‘s last seven league games, not even making the matchday squad for most of them.
Yang has been capped three times and had began to emerge as a first pick for the Hoops with some good form, before his sending off against Hearts.
