Celtic Told They Should Have Signed Star Serie A Midfielder Years Ago
Celtic have been told that they should have signed Bologna star-man Lewis Ferguson many years ago when he was plying his trade at Aberdeen.
Ferguson – son of Derek and nephew of Barry – spent four years with the Dons, making 169 appearances in all competitions for the club. He moved to Serie A outfit Bologna in the summer of 2022.
He has captained the Italian side on several occasions and this season, the 24-year-old has vastly impressed. Recently linked with European giants Juventus (La Gazzetta dello sport), Celtic have been told they should have signed Ferguson years ago.
Speaking on Go Radio’s Football Show last Friday evening, former Hoops midfielder Peter Grant said that his old team should’ve brought the Scotland internationalist to Glasgow: “We said Celtic or Rangers should have taken him”, quipped Grant.
“We said it all that time long ago before how well he has done.
“To captain them [Bologna] as well and to speak Italian, all these things, he’s been a credit to himself and his family to go and do that and grab it with both hands. He’s been magnificent.”
Ferguson’s Uncle Barry later admitted on the show that there was no interest whatsoever from Rangers in him, meaning The Bhoys would have had a free run (at least among Scottish clubs) at signing the player. The ship sailed many moons ago, however.
Although Ferguson would have likely excelled at Parkhead and brought much-needed venom to the engine room, he is now well out of the club’s reach and starring on the continent.
