Lee Corso Identifies an Unexpected Team That Should Have Made the Cut in the College Football Playoff Debate
Lee Corso sparked a contentious discussion on a recent episode of “College GameDay” by choosing the team he believes ought to have made it to the College Football Playoffs. Experienced commentator and former coach Corso feels South Carolina was unjustly excluded from the tournament.
Corso made his statement after Notre Dame won Friday night 27–17. Although the committee made a logical choice, he acknowledged that they failed to consider one of the nation’s best teams. “I think South Carolina is one of the best football teams in the nation, and I think they missed one squad,” Corso said.
The impressive play of the three SEC teams with three losses—South Carolina, Ole Miss, and Alabama—is the foundation of Corso’s argument. At the national level, he believes these teams would have performed better. College football fans will undoubtedly disagree with this position; some will believe that South Carolina was left out, while others will contend that the committee made the right decision.
Corso provided a health report and talked about the playoff selections. Corso said he is doing much better after missing a lot of episodes and plans to finish the rest of the year, which includes going to every bowl game.
Additionally, Corso predicted that Ohio State will defeat Tennessee, Texas would defeat Clemson, and Penn State would defeat SMU. In addition, he reiterated his preseason forecast that the Texas Longhorns will take home the national championship.
Supporters and pundits will surely continue to debate the committee’s choices in the College Football Playoffs. Corso’s endorsement of South Carolina as the team that ought to have qualified for the playoffs fuels the flames and highlights the challenges and tensions associated with determining which college football teams are the best.
Fans will be anxious to watch how the chosen teams fare nationally as the bowl games draw near. Will the Texas Longhorns win a national championship, as Corso predicted? Time will tell.
