Covid denied Celtic an Ibrox Beautiful Sunday

Four years ago yesterday the football brought to a halt. It was even more frustrating with a trip to Ibrox on the horizon.

Four years ago we beat St Mirren 5-0 in an impressive performance to further consolidate our place at the top of the league.

We were firing in all cylinders and not only were we closing in on an unprecedented quadruple treble, we were also on course to equal our own club record of nine championships in a row. This would also mean that Celtic would be the only club – dead or alive – to win a second 9IAR.

But sadly due to the coronavirus pandemic the football was brought to a sudden halt just under a week later.

It was obviously a move that was taken out our hands due to the severity of the coronavirus bug that was sweeping the world at an alarming rate, but football was an escape from our life woes and sadly we didn’t have that to look forward too.

Even more disappointing was the fact that our next game was a trip to Ibrox to face theRangers. Usually you get the fear going into these games, no matter your form, but this one was different.

We were at the top of our game while theRangers were struggling against the likes of Ross County, Hamilton and had they had just suffered a home defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League.

I was pretty confident we would go to Ibrox and win comprehensively. I’m still as sure to this day that we would have gone there and got the victory that would have all but clinched the league title, we were well ahead anyway.

It still irritates me that we missed out on the chance to fulfil that fixture and the rest of games that campaign for that matter.

The Rangers supporters were also glad as it spared them the indignity of seeing their side suffer yet another Glasgow derby defeat at Ibrox. No matter how much they proclaim that we were handed the title.

We won it fair and square as they know fine well. We were 11 points clear having played each side home and away. We were playing with confidence while they were struggling and there was even talk of sacking Stevie G.

Stopping the football was the best part of that season for them, while for us it was rather disappointing. That sums it up perfectly.
