Dan Campbell: We are really confident in Jahmyr Gibbs’ ability to handle a heavier workload…

The Lions will not be able to pass the ball to David Montgomery for the remainder of the season, despite using a double-barreled rushing approach this season.

The loss of a running back who has scored 25 touchdowns in the previous two years is devastating, and Montgomery’s season-ending knee injury occurred during the Week 15 defeat to the Bills. But if it weren’t for Jahmyr Gibbs in the backfield, it would be much more important.

In addition to reaching the end zone more frequently than he did during his rookie campaign, Gibbs has scored the same number of touchdowns. Gibbs has also gained 1,442 yards from scrimmage, so it’s easy to see why head coach Dan Campbell is at ease with him playing alone.

According to the team’s website, Campbell stated, “We have a lot of confidence in Gibbs.” As the season has progressed, he has become better and better. He has made several plays when given the chance. For us, he made some significant plays. He adds a volatile ingredient. You can see what he can do in the run game, and his pass game is improving. We’re really confident.”

The Lions also have Craig Reynolds and fourth-round selection Sione Vaki on the roster, but Gibbs will be the star of the game for the remainder of the season, and the team will need him to continue playing at his current level.
