Hepburn of Louisville and Evans of Duke Win Weekly ACC Men’s Basketball Awards

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Louisville senior guard Chucky Hepburn claimed Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honors, while Duke guard Isaiah Evans earned Rookie of the Week honors for games played February 24-March 1.

ACC men’s basketball weekly honors are nominated by the respective schools and determined by a vote of an 18-member media panel.

Hepburn was named ACC Player of the Week for the second time this season (December 2).

Hepburn averaged 26.0 points and 5.0 assists in wins over Virginia Tech and Pitt. He shot 14-for-23 (60.9%) from the floor overall, including 7-for-9 (77.8%) from behind the arc, and 17-for-21 (81.0%) from the free throw line. On Saturday, March 1, against Pitt, Hepburn scored a career-high 37 points, with four assists, two steals and two rebounds. He went a perfect 6-for-6 from the arc, knocking down all six shots in the final five minutes of the first half and scoring Louisville’s final 18 points before the break. His 6-for-6 mark tied the most 3-pointers made without a miss by a Division I player in any half this season. He went 9-for-11 overall from the floor and added 13 makes at the charity stripe.

His 37-point performance is in the top-10 single game scoring performances in Louisville history and is the third-best in the league this season. Hepburn is only one of seven Division I players this season to have a game of 37 or more points while shooting at least 80% from the field. The native of Omaha, Nebraska, scored 15 points at Virginia Tech on Tuesday, February 25, while handing out six assists in the process and grabbing two steals in his 37 minutes.

Evans averaged 17.5 points per game during Duke’s 2-0 week, which included nine 3-pointers by the freshman. During a 97-60 win at Miami on Tuesday, the native of Fayetteville, North Carolina, exploded for 16 first-half points on 5-of-6 (.833) shooting from deep. In the first start of his career against Florida State on Saturday, Evans scored 19 points, grabbed a pair of rebounds, and added an assist and a steal in the Blue Devils’ 100-65 victory. He connected on 9-of-21 (42.9%) 3-point shots during the week.
