Celtic
In a perfect world, 50/50 ticket split is fine but Scottish football is far from perfect
Every club should get a 50/50 split when it comes to semis and finals, but they can’t complain if they don’t…
They say that the only two certainties in life are death and taxes. They should add calls for a 50/50 split for Scottish domestic cup semi and final briefs from sides paired with the big two. And right on cue it’s begun this week after Aberdeen were drawn against Celtic and Hearts were paired with theRangers, who incidentally will not be going to Dublin after all.
Aberdeen were offered a generous 19,000 briefs for the clash on Saturday 20 April with Celtic allocated 3,000 more. In contrast Hearts were granted the same amount as their Glasgow relations.
As to why is anyone’s guess, but I’d say that Aberdeens history of not selling full allocations in the past has come back to bite them. My personal opinion is that every single team should be treated equally when it comes to ticket allocations in the big cup games at Hampden, and any that any unsold briefs should be handed to the other side.
But they also can’t complain if they don’t get an equal share. Sides such as Aberdeen don’t sell out their home games, and have failed to sell briefs for similar games in the past, so it’s only fair that clubs like our own get the lion’s share.
The Scottish FA host these matches in their stadium and unlike many of the clubs, they are actually keen to have their stadium full for these matches. Bums on seats is not a concept that is popular around the top division in Scottish football.
