The search for the next head coach has begun for NFL teams who have already been eliminated from playoff contention. Aaron Glenn, the Detroit Lions’ defensive coordinator, is a major candidate to become the next head coach of the New Orleans Saints.

When a 5-10 NFL club is eliminated from postseason contention following a 34-0 whitewash in week 16, it indicates that a shift at the top is occurring. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Aaron Glenn, the Detroit Lions’ defensive coordinator, is one of the top contenders for the New Orleans Saints’ head coaching position.

Lions’ Aaron Glenn is a top candidate for the Saints’ head coach position.

Top possibilities for next season’s head coaching roles include Glenn and Ben Johnson, the Lions’ offensive coordinator. The Lions’ dramatic leap in performance over the last three years may be ascribed to excellent coaching. Head coach Dan Campbell and his outstanding coordinators have established a winning culture in Detroit. Everyone feels that a championship victory is their destiny and that this squad is unique.

This squad has improved from one of the worst in the NFL to a legitimate Super Bowl contender. But it wasn’t simple, especially this year. As an early Super Bowl favorite, the squad had a bullseye on their back going into the season. They endured one of the league’s most difficult schedules. As the victories increased, so did the injuries. The Lions, more than any other NFL club, have been ravaged by player injuries. Glenn’s defense suffered the most significant casualties, with up to 19 players on injured reserve.

Glenn Gets Results With Lions’ Revolving Lineup

Nonetheless, the squad is 13-2 heading into the playoffs, vying for the NFC’s top seed and home-field advantage. Much of the credit goes to Glenn, who has been adept at assembling a weekly team from a rotating cast of newly recruited substitute defenders.

As the number of injured players grew, Glenn was compelled to reshuffle his team each week to address coverage deficiencies. Glenn depends on top players Brian Branch and Jack Campbell to adapt to new roles. Both have risen to the task. Branch has excelled at both safety and slot cornerback positions.Branch, a prominent NFL defensive player, now leads the club with 72 tackles. In the game against Chicago, he had 12 tackles (eight solo), a forced fumble, and pass defense.

Campbell, a second-year player, has stepped up as defensive captain. Following Alex Anzalone’s injury, Campbell assumed communication responsibilities. He is teaching freshly acquired veterans Detroit’s defense. Despite his youth, the older players revere him as a leader.

Glenn Had Success With the Saints

When Saints coach Dennis Allen was sacked mid-season, Glenn was regarded as a probable successor. But it’s not simply his success with the Lions that offers him an advantage for the head coaching position in New Orleans. He has a solid track record with the company. Glenn served as a position coach for the New Orleans secondary while on the Saints coaching staff. During his career from 2016 to 2020, the Saints won the NFC South Division championship four out of five years.

Glenn’s secondary was recognized as one of the best in the NFL in 2020, having played a pivotal role in the team’s defensive improvement. The Saints’ defense was fourth overall in yards allowed per game and fifth in points per game.

Glenn coached cornerback Marshon Lattimore to two Pro Bowl appearances. In 2017, he was named AP Defensive Rookie of the Year. At the age of 21, he became the youngest player from New Orleans to be named to the Pro Bowl. In 2019, safety Vonn Bell led the secondary in tackles (86) and had the most fumble recoveries in the NFL.

What Glenn Offers HC Candidate.

Glenn is a player’s coach. Glenn, a former NFL cornerback, was taken by the New York Jets in the first round of the 1994 draft.During his fifteen years in the NFL, he witnessed firsthand the physical and mental challenges necessary to perform at such a high level.

His creativity and problem-solving abilities make him an excellent candidate. Despite adding new players this season, Glenn’s defense remains effective. No matter how many fresh faces appear on their weekly roster, he finds a way to make it work. It’s not always beautiful but it’s working.  The Lions keep winning. After losing three key defenders in week 15, the Lions rebounded with a 34-17 win against division foe the Chicago Bears.

The amount of former NFL players is another indication of Glenn’s coaching ability. His coaching of talented young players prepared them for long-term NFL success.

The Lions will be devastated to lose Glenn. They understand, however, that he has earned this chance and will cheer on his accomplishment.
