Lions fans express their frustration with Nick Wright for referring to Jared Goff as a “civilian” at quarterback
The Detroit Lions are now the betting favourite to win Super Bowl LIX at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, according to ESPN Bet. However, some analysts remain unsure if Detroit can secure the Lombardi Trophy.
Nick Wright, the host of First Things First, points out that the Lions have a significant weakness that many other reporters seem to overlook when comparing them to other top-tier NFL teams.
The Lions have a fantastic quarterback who was the first pick in the 2016 NFL Draft! Jared Goff, the player we’re talking about, guided his former team, the Los Angeles Rams, all the way to the Super Bowl, even though they didn’t quite make it in the end.
Wright believes that Goff’s talents aren’t particularly impressive, which keeps Detroit from being seen as the top team.
“I don’t think you can be the best team in the league when you have a civilian at quarterback,” Wright said, which was followed up by a response of “Come on” by co-host Kevin Wildes.
“I don’t think this team with Jared Goff at quarterback is quite on the same level as the Chiefs or the Bills.” “I can’t, I won’t,” Wright said, noting that it’s “very difficult” in today’s NFL to win three games in a row with a “guy” who is just a “good guy,” referring to the Lions’ record-setting quarterback.
“It’s totally okay to be upset; that’s just how I feel about the Lions,” Wright said, to which a co-host playfully called him “dead wrong.”
Fans shared their thoughts in the comments section about Wright’s passionate views on the Lions quarterback.
“That civilian had an amazing game, going 18-for-18 with three touchdowns,” one said.
“He looks like a kid trying to sound important at the adult table,” another reader wrote.
“The Ravens accomplished it with Trent Dilfer…””There’s no way you can convince me that Dilfer is better than Goff,” another fan shared.
Goff is completing 73 percent of his passes, which puts him right behind Tua Tagovailoa of the Miami Dolphins among players with 1,400 or more passing attempts this season.
“Goff is definitely going to use that disrespect to his advantage!” another fan chimed in regarding Wright’s remarks.
