Lions running back David Montgomery has elected to undergo rehabilitation rather than surgery in anticipation of his potential return for the playoff
In spite of the injuries that have been occurring recently, there is a glimmer of optimism for Detroit Lions fans.
This week, David Montgomery, the running back, has sought advice from a number of authorities regarding his knee injury. According to Ian Rapoport, an NFL insider, he has elected to forgo surgery and instead undergo rehabilitation in anticipation of a potential return during the postseason.
The initial assumption was that Montgomery would require surgery to repair his MCL, which was injured during the Lions’ Sunday loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Alim McNeill, a prominent interior defensive lineman, sustained a severed ACL on Sunday, which resulted in the termination of his season. Carlon Davis III and Khalil Dorsey, both cornerbacks, sustained severe injuries during the game against the Bills. Dorsey’s season was also terminated by an ankle injury.
Davis, like Montgomery, may be able to recover from a mandible injury if the Lions make a significant playoff run.
The theme of Detroit’s otherwise exceptional season has been the presence of over 20 players on the injured reserve as they prepare for their Week 16 game against the Chicago Bears.
In 14 games, Montgomery completed the regular season with 185 carries for 775 yards (4.2 yards per carry), 12 rushing touchdowns, and 36 receptions for 341 yards.
Dan Campbell stated during a press conference this week that they intend to avoid overworking Jahmyr Gibbs, who will be responsible for the majority of the work out of the backfield from this point forward.
Campbell informed reporters on Monday, “Yes, we have a great deal of faith in Gibbs.” “He has continued to improve throughout the course of this season, and, when afforded the opportunity, he has made numerous plays, including several significant ones for us yesterday.” He possesses a potent element, and his pass-game skills are improving. Additionally, his performance in the run game is impressive, which instills us with a great deal of confidence.
Craig Reynolds could be the subsequent player to emerge after Gibbs, but the Lions could also utilize newcomer Sione Vaki.
“I think for him it’s going to be, we’ve got to use and maximize the reps that we have for him, and be careful that we don’t give him too much,” Campbell indicated regarding Gibbs. “We must continue to be intelligent in our interactions with him; however, we require him, and that is the challenge.” Craig will be prepared to assist us, as will Vaki, potentially. Therefore, those other individuals will be required to participate.
Lions just was given perfect CB signing to strengthen defense prior to playoffs…
The Detroit Lions should give some thought to signing this just released defense.
Even if the Lions have one of the finest regular seasons in team history, following the Week 15 defeat to the Buffalo Bills, the degree of fear among their supporters soared. Not the 48-42 loss, but rather the ongoing accumulation of terrible injuries to important players.
Sunday’s season-ending injuries were running back David Montgomery, defensive lineman Alim McNeill, and cornerback Khalil Dorsey. Carlton Davis III suffered a jaw injury that will cause him to be absent immediately going forward.
Particularly on the defensive end, the Lions were among the NFL’s most injury-torn teams even before Sunday. From their Week 1 roster, they lost six starting defenders—including maybe the finest player on the team—Aidan Hutchinson.
One of the most important problems the Lions will face going forward is what they will do in the secondary. On the injured reserve list the Lions also have Ennis Rakestraw Jr. and Ifeatu Melifonwu in addition to Dorsey and Davis. Melifonwu’s practice window probably starts this week, but it’s yet unknown whether he will be ready for Week 16.
This drives a demand for additional depth in the cornerback rotation. Luckily for the Lions, they have a target—a gifted CB with significant postseason expertise.
On Tuesday, the San Francisco 49ers dismissed Ambry Thomas via Adam Schefter, allowing the Lions to sign him before to the playoffs.
Perfect Lions Target is CB Ambry Thomas.
49ers have waived cornerback Ambry Thomas off the injured reserve list. Thomas is now healthy and, as a former third-round pick out of Michigan, is expected to garner interest.

Former Michigan star Thomas was a third-round draft pick for the NFL. Since then, he has been a valued component of the great 49ers defense, showing up in 42 games and compiling 11 starts. During his stint, he also started in four San Francisco postseason games.
Thomas shattered his forearm before the season began and ended himself on the injured reserve list. Though he hasn’t yet made his season debut, he is apparently healthy and ready.
Presumably starting Terrion Arnold and Kindle Vildor on the outside against the Bears on Sunday, the Lions will start Amik Robertson might go outside, while Brian Branch might advance from safety into a cornerback position. Emmanuel Moseley will also probably have more responsibility among all the absences.
None of these remedies offer outstanding long-term treatments. But including a man like Thomas may strengthen the Lions’ defense prior to the playoffs and enable them to reclaim their Super Bowl favorites reputation.
