NOTEBOOK: Goff leads the Lions’ attack to another great performance…
Jared Goff, the quarterback for the Detroit Lions, had another great game, which has become a theme this season.
Green Bay beat the San Francisco 49ers 40–34 on Monday Night Football, and Goff threw at least three scores for the fourth straight game. For the game, he made 26 out of 34 passes for 303 yards, scored touchdowns to Jamerson Williams, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Sam LaPorta, and had a passer rating of 132.4.
Chiefs coach Dan Campbell said, “I thought Goff had a big game.” “Goff played really well today. We’ve seen him play like this before. I just thought he moved up another level, which is hard to believe given how well he’s been playing.
With Goff in charge, this season could go down in history. His eighth game of the season with a completion rate of at least 75% was on Monday. With that game, he tied Tom Brady (2007) for the most games in NFL history with that stat.
His 11th game of the season with a 70% completion rate and his 7th road game of the season with a 70% completion rate for a Lions team that went perfect on the road this season.
He said there were too many friends and family at the game for him to keep track of. Goff is from California. Monday had to be a big deal for him to play so well in front of everyone and beat the team he grew up rooting for.
“I feel like we’re all playing at an elevated level right now on offense,” Mr. Goff said. “We scored a lot of points in the last few weeks, even in the game against Buffalo that we lost.” It’s been a while since we played well on offense, and I feel like I’m a part of that.
MATCHUP OF FAIRY TALE
Win for Detroit Campbell called the game between the Lions and the 14-2 Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night in Detroit a “fairy tale.” The winner will win the NFC North title and be the No. 1 seed in the NFC, which means they will play at home in the playoffs and have a bye in the first round.
Campbell told him, “This is why you’re doing it, man.” “The story you wrote could not be better. This is something you couldn’t think of. Both teams have records of 14-2, and the game is for the division title and the top seed. There’s nothing better than this. This sounds like a fairy tale.”
NEWS ABOUT SEWELL
Right tackle for the NFLAt halftime on Sunday, Penei Sewell went to the changing room before his peers. The Lions were looking at his thumb, it turned out.
Even though Sewell missed the last kneel-down snap of the first half, he came back and played the whole second half. Campbell said that Sewell hurt his thumb during the game, but he wasn’t worried about it.
The man said, “He should be fine.”
JAMO HAS ANOTHER BIG DAY
Williams is having a great end to the regular season, which is great for the Lions’ offense, which is already very very fast.
Williams caught five passes for 77 yards (15.4 avg.) and a score. He also ran for a touchdown from three yards out in the win over the 49ers.
He made another big play when he took a pass from St. Brown and ran it in from 41 yards out in the second quarter. Williams now joins Cloyce Box (1952 and 1950) as the only players in the team’s history to have at least five touchdown catches of 40 yards or more in a single season.
ADDITIONAL POINT
In NFL history, LaPorta is the first tight end to have at least 600 receiving yards and six receiving scores in each of their first two seasons.
