Everton
‘Really?’ – talkSPORT host amazed by Everton prediction made live on air
Darren Bent has predicted Everton will drop out of the Premier League this season along with Burnley and Sheffield United.
Speaking on talkSPORT Drive [15 February], Bent said he believes the bottom three will remain as it is come the end of the campaign.
Co-host Andy Goldstein was surprised by that assertion and asked “really?”, to which Bent replied with “I do”.
Eighteenth-place Everton are one point below Luton Town, who have a game in hand, and three points adrift of Nottingham Forest.
Everton’s Premier League status under threat
Bent’s prediction is hardly the most outlandish ever as Everton are going down as things stand.
The Toffees have enjoyed the odd positive result over the past six weeks, such as draws with Aston Villa and Tottenham, but three points from a possible 21 is incredibly underwhelming.
Luton’s defeat to Sheffield United last weekend was a massive boost, but Everton cannot simply rely on other results between now and the end of the season.
Monday’s (19 February) clash with Crystal Palace – a game in which a key figure could return – is a huge one as it could drag Everton to within two points of the Eagles, meaning another team deep in the mire.
Many have already completely written Burnley and Sheffield United off, and it is hard to disagree with that verdict, even if the Blades did beat Luton last weekend.
This really is crunch time for Everton, and the hope is they can prove their doubters – Bent among them – wrong come the end of the campaign.
