‘Shocking’ – King blasts Everton, says no one will want to sign Goodison star

Everton have a lot to answer for after their “shocking” recruitment in recent years, according to former Toffees scout Bryan King.

King blasted the Goodison Park club for various decisions from the powers that be on Merseyside, including the “strange” signing of goalkeeper Jordan Pickford

Everton broke their club transfer record to sign Pickford for £30million in the summer of 2017 [Sky Sports, 16 June 2017], with their former scout believing that nobody would want to buy him right now.

King was left baffled by the decision to sack manager Ronald Koeman, who was in charge at the time of Pickford’s arrival, just months after that club-record signature.

Everton blasted as Pickford singled out

Speaking to Goodison News, King said: “Who would buy him? He isn’t going to win you the league. When you look back at the Peter Shilton’s and people like that, they can give you that bit extra to win the league. Pickford isn’t going to give you that bit extra.

“It goes back to recruitment. A manager brings a goalkeeper in for £30million in the summer, and he’s sacked three months later. Very strange.

If they go down they will be forced to sell several players, they’ll certainly have to square the books up, and practically rebuild again, whether Dyche is still there or a new manager comes in.

“In the last seven years, how many managers has Pickford played under? Koeman, Allardyce, Silva, Lampard, Ancelotti, Dyche. At least six managers in seven years, and they wonder why they are in the trouble they are in now.

“The board and the people who have been advising the board have a lot to answer for, because the recruitment has been shocking, the way they have run the club has been shocking.

Everton and Chelsea, I’d love to know how much money they have spent on players who aren’t good enough. One or two billion pounds I would think.”

The Toffees have been charged and punished by the Premier League for financial failings in recent years, with another charge since added.

Their sanction, a 10-point deduction earlier this season – which has been appealed – could now be followed by another points deduction.
