St Mirren have opened discussions with Celtic over an extended loan deal for Kwon Hyeok-Kyu.

The midfielder has impressed in Paisley after making the move on loan until the end of the season.

And Buddies boss Stephen Robinson is hopeful Kwon could remain at St Mirren beyond the summer.

“He’s someone we’d really like to keep,” said Robinson in the Daily Record. “We’re speaking to Celtic about it, perhaps keeping him for another season with ourselves.

“We’d be very keen to do that, but he isn’t our player and that won’t be our decision. We knew he’d have an influence, it was about getting him game-time.

“He came to the country and hasn’t played a lot. It’s getting him used to Scottish football, long throws and long balls at times that he maybe isn’t used to. The physicality of our game.

“He’s added that bit of quality and composure. It’s something we’d be very keen to get done. It’s possibly a long way off happening, but that would be in an ideal world for me.”

Meanwhile, Robinson could have captain Mark O’Hara back in his squad for the trip to Dingwall to face Ross County on Tuesday. The midfielder had been out through a thigh knock.

He said: “We are hopeful we will have Mark O’Hara back in the squad.

“Mark’s been fantastic for me. He has struggled in the last few months with injury. He tried to play on with it. People don’t realise that, the things that the boys go through for the football club.

“We just had to pull him out to get him 100 per cent right. We are hopeful he is there now and it’s certainly a big boost to have him back.”
