“Tell Him”: Manager offers Rangers star player a surprise way to leave the club

Ianis Hagi could leave Rangers without being told because Neil Lennon wants him to join him at his new team, Rapid Bucharest.

The new manager of the Romanian club was previously in charge of Celtic and Hibs. He joked that the winger might want to go back to his home country.

Hagi, 25, spent last season on loan with Alaves in La Liga. He told his agents to find him the right club and manager [Scottish Sun, 6 June], which seems to be confirmation that he wants to leave the Light Blues this summer.

According to the Daily Record (June 10, 4:05 p.m.), Lennon said, “Come here, come play at Rapid!” He can come if he wants to. Getting hurt has been a problem for him, but he is a good player. Tell him he’s welcome here.

Neil Lennon brings the Rangers star back to Romania.

It looks like Hagi’s time at Ibrox is coming to an end, so even if he doesn’t join forces with Lennon, he’s probably going to make some kind of move.

Even though his father, the legendary Romanian Gheorghe, denied rumours that the Gers winger wanted to leave in March, the player soon said he wanted to stay in Spain because the way they play was good for him.

Since the serious knee injury that kept him out for a year and the loan move last season, he hasn’t played much for Rangers in the last two and a half years.

He played 22 league games for Alaves last season, which was a bit of a comeback after not playing much the year before. As is usual at Ibrox these days, a lot has changed since he left.

Philippe Clement took over for Michael Beale, and things have moved on. If Hagi wants to leave, the new manager could use the money just as much as the wide player could use a fresh start.
