Tomoki Iwata’s Celtic Frustration Has Turned To Happiness With Recent Inclusions

Celtic midfielder Tomoki Iwata has admitted that he is now happy at Celtic after previous frustration due to a lack of minutes.

The midfielder joined the club from Yokohama F. Marinos last January but failed to make an immediate impact. He got a run in the team towards the end of 2022/23 amid injuries but other than that, his first year in Glasgow was relatively uneventful.

Iwata has suffered from injury throughout his time in Glasgow, but he is now a happy man after recent consistency in terms of fitness and game time: “Now I start to be featuring in the games, I’m really happy about it”, he said (Glasgow Times).

“Before that I was obviously frustrated not being involved in the team because of the injuries or different situations but then also I was hoping that soon I would get the opportunities so, yeah, it was a difficult moment but now I’m happy.”

Manager Brendan Rodgers was full of praise for Iwata following his performances against Motherwell and Dundee over the past few weeks. He was harshly penalised for a ‘handball’ against Hearts yesterday, though.

It wasn’t the best game for Iwata or any of his teammates but with Callum McGregor set to be out for the next two games, he is likely to continue in the middle of the park.

The 26-year-old brings much stability and calmness to the engine room, particularly in games that the Hoops dominate. He was unable to impose himself on the match at Tynecastle, but that was no different for any of his colleagues.

Upcoming clashes at Parkhead with Livingston and St. Johnstone provide Celtic with the opportunity to bounce back from Sunday’s loss in which nothing fell their way.
