Update on Maliq Brown: He’ll Return

Published

on

As you probably know, Maliq Brown dislocated his shoulder in the Virginia game. It was a weird non-contact injury but things happen and he left the game and was in a sling on the bench.

After imaging, there was no sign of serious injury to the surrounding labrum and soreness is the main issue. So when he feels up to it, he can presumably return.

A couple of points here: first, one of the understated advantages of playing at Duke is that the medical care is absolutely superb. None of us know what is going on behind the scenes, but sports medicine is just one of Duke Medical Center’s many great strengths. The rehab options are no doubt mind-boggling.

And second, although many will have forgotten this, during his freshman year, assistant coach Chris Carrawell had multiple shoulder dislocations. On one occasion, the trainer actually popped it back into place on the court as the entire crowd gasped and looked away.

We mention it because you couldn’t ask for a better person to help Brown through this than Carrawell, who knows, intimately and thoroughly, what’s involved.

By the way, who wrote The Sporting News Headline and called the update on Brown “hapless?” That was strange.
