West Ham United
West Ham player ratings – ‘Masterclass’ 10/10 and ‘livewire’ 9 in convincing Brentford win
A Jarrod Bowen finishing masterclass helped West Ham to a convincing 4-2 win over Brentford at the London Stadium on Monday night.
David Moyes will take frustration from the two goals conceded but it was a night when the Hammers’ attacking options sparkled under the lights in East London. Bowen will make the headlines with his clinical hat-trick but there was plenty to love from Mohammed Kudus and a relief to see Lucas Paqueta back in action, as well as some fine showings elsewhere on the pitch.
West Ham supporters will breathe a sigh of relief tonight as their side celebrates a first Premier League win of 2024 – here’s how the players rated against Brentford.
1. Alphonse Areola – 8
Made a great save against Onyeka in the second half and a stunning couple of stops in injury time.
2. Emerson – 7
Lewis-Potter did look dangerous so Emerson was cautious with his offensive work. Rattled off a peach of a shot for his goal.
3. Kurt Zouma – 6
Too slow to stop the Wissa goal and looked a little unconvincing at moments.
4. Konstantinos Mavropanos – 8
Fantastic tonight. Confident with the ball at his feet and made a heroic sprint and tackle to stop Lewis-Potter in the first half.
5. Vladimir Coufal – 8
A real danger going forwards, assisted the second and put in a delightful ball for Soucek early on too.
6. Edson Alvarez – 9
A titan tonight. Really impressive as he mopped up in midfield.
7. Tomas Soucek – 6
A decent showing overall but some of those chances were big misses. Could have had a hat-trick in the first half and on any other day those missed opportunities would have cost West Ham.
8. Lucas Paqueta – 7
Fairly quiet on his return but his presence makes a real difference in the side.
9. James Ward-Prowse – 7
His usual self tonight – midfielder orchestrated the early cutting open of the Brentford defence.
10. Mohammed Kudus – 8
Such a livewire in the West Ham side. Brentford could hardly get near him as he spearheaded Hammers moves.
11. Jarrod Bowen – 10
A masterclass in finishing. When your striker pops up with a hat-trick, there’s little more you can ask of him. Great pace and always a danger with the ball at his feet.
12. SUB – Michail Antonio – 6
Came on with plenty enthusiasm but a little sloppy in his eagerness.
13. SUB – Ben Johnson – N/A
Came on in injury time.
14. Angelo Ogbonna – N/A
Unused sub.
15. Nayef Aguerd – N/A
Unused sub.
16. George Earthy – N/A
Unused sub.
17. Divin Mubama – N/A
Unused sub.
18. Oliver Scarles – N/A
Unused sub.
19. Lukasz Fabianski -N/A

20. Danny Ings – N/A
