‘You can see’: Joe Hart tipped to send Celtic teammates a strong message after what he did in St Johnstone win
Celtic’s win over St Johnstone yesterday afternoon sent Brendan Rodgers’ side back to the top of the Scottish Premiership.
And they will remain there for the duration of the international break after Rangers’ fixture against Dundee was postponed today.
But it was the manner of Celtic’s win that will delight the Hoops support today. There were some excellent performances from the likes of Nicolas Kuhn and Tomoki Iwata.
Kyogo Furuhashi also looked back to his best after scoring for the second weekend in a row had two goals chalked off and was denied by the woodwork as well as the Japanese striker looked so dangerous.
However, it was what the raging Joe Hart did at St Johnstone’s goal that made Peter Grant believe that the veteran goalkeeper would have had strong words with his Celtic teammates at full time in the dressing room.
Hart was absolutely livid at his backline for not clearing the St Johnstone’s crosses on two occasions and he wasn’t shy in letting his teammates know all about it. And Grant said the goalie was correct to react the way he did.
Grant said [Celtic TV], “He was quite right because we should stop the cross. I think the cross was allowed in too easily. But it’s a bit lazy getting out and have that desire not to concede.
“Because it’s so tight at this moment in time it could come down to that [goal difference].
“You can see the frustration in Joe and his experience is telling you that. These could be big moments.
“And to play so well and concede when it didn’t when their performance didn’t really deserve to concede the goal but they’re the moments that you can’t give up.
“I can’t remember him having a save to make in the game which is very unusual for Joe.
“But he’s been terrific in his attitude. Hopefully, that will be a disappointment when he goes into the dressing room and he’ll be saying to the guys in the dressing room, ‘Listen we conceded a silly goal’.
“And that’s why these guys play at the top for so long.”
Hart’s reaction is why the Celtic fans love him. He’s a born winner and even when Celtic were cruising his standards didn’t slip.
The opportunity to have a hattrick of clean sheets would have been on his mind and to give that up so cheaply really annoyed the Hoops stopper.
I would love to have been a fly on the wall at full time just to hear what Hart said to his defenders.
