Former £25m Everton winger set to jet out to complete Brazil move after work permit agreed
Yannick Bolasie’s Everton career never hit the heights expected of him after his £25million switch from Crystal Palace.
Loans to Aston Villa, RSC Anderlecht, Sporting Lisbon and Middlesbrough followed before a free transfer to Caykur Rizespor. After leaving the Turkish club, the 34-year-old spent a brief two-month spell with Swansea before being released at the end of January.
And now, the former Everton winger is closing in on a fresh challenge outside of European football.
Fabrizio Romano shares update on former Everton star
According to Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano (via X), Bolasie is set to sign for Brazilian side Criciuma after agreeing a pre-contract.
It’s believed Bolasie received his work permit last week and that he’s due to travel to Brazil this weekend to complete his move.
It’s certainly an interesting move for a player once considered the Premier League’s next big thing. Sadly, his switch to Goodison Park probably hindered his career more than it helped.
Bolasie was probably a victim of Farhad Moshiri’s rein and joined when Everton’s fortunes began to turn.
The series of loan spells has seen his career fizzle out, and his move to Brazil is further proof. It would not be surprising to see the winger call time on his career relatively soon.
The 34-year-old still has fond memories of his time at Goodison Park and has recently lauded Seamus Coleman’s ability. Talking on the FILTHYFELLAS Podcast, he said: “Seamus Coleman is good man! Seamus is cold.
“He is fast! And strong, mad strong! That’s one of the fullbacks I can say when I am playing against him, it’s a real battle.
“He knows it’s a real battle, but we’re going hell for leather, and he’s trying to take me one way, and I’m going the other.
“When I came to Everton, he was saying it was good to finally see you on my side!”
