Roy Keane, a former captain of Manchester United, wants Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, to take over as England manager after Gareth Southgate quit.

Roy Keane, a former captain of Manchester United and star player for the Republic of Ireland, wants the English Football Association to hire Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, as their new manager.

Lee Carsley is currently in charge of England until a new manager is hired in November. During the international break, Carsley said that he has been asked to lead the team until then. There is a lot of talk about who might replace Gareth Southgate if Carsley doesn’t get the job. Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, and Eddie Howe are all names that come up.

After England beat Finland in the Nations League, Keane and fellow commentator Ian Wright both agreed that there weren’t many choices. Keane added one more name to the hat to end the conversation.

“Go after Pep,” he told ITV Sport viewers. “The summer is his last day on the job. Pick the best.

City fans recently paid for a sign in Catalonia begging Guardiola to stay, so this idea from Keane might not go over well with them. What did the Blues’ manager say about his future in July? “When I’m leaving, I will say I’m leaving, but I didn’t say that.”

“We will see what takes place. But I’m not going to say for sure that I won’t extend my deal.

“I want to stay because I want to stay.” Today, nine years in the same club seems like a very long time.

I want to be sure it’s the right choice. Not just for me, but also for the team and the players.
