Predicting a Long-Term, High-Paying New Aidan Hutchinson Contract, 5-years,… $185 million with $100 million guaranteed
It is anticipated that Aidan Hutchinson will become the highest-paid edge rusher in the NFL.
This offseason, the Detroit Lions are anticipated to begin long-term contract talks with star edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson.
Additionally, Hutchinson is qualified for the club to pick up his $22,612,000 fifth-year option. If the team decides to exercise the fifth-year option, which seems likely considering his success in the first three years of his career, they still have time to negotiate a contract.
Unfortunately, against the Dallas Cowboys, the former No. 2 pick broke both his fibula and tibia, ending his season prematurely.
Hutchinson recorded 7.5 sacks, 19 tackles, and 45 quarterback pressures in five games.
During his season-ending press conference, general manager Brad Holmes stated that the team had not yet engaged in meaningful contract extension negotiations with the Michigan product.
Yes, we are resolving all of that. Once more, we don’t always have control over it. It takes two people to complete a task, even though we may have our own procedures and plans,” Holmes stated. “You just don’t know what that player, their camp, and all that kind of stuff are thinking,” the statement reads.
Holmes went on to say, “So, we haven’t gotten to those intense dialogues yet, so that’s going to be the only thing.” “But we’ll just see how it goes. We have our process and our philosophy.”
Nick Bosa, who signed a five-year, $170 million contract with $88 million in guaranteed money, is currently the highest-paid edge rusher.
As demonstrated in his third season, Hutchinson has the ability to rank among the NFL’s best defensive players for the ensuing years.
According to preliminary reports, the former Michigan Wolverines defender will fully recover from his leg injury and be ready for the team’s 2025 season debut.
Forecast: $185 million over five years, with a $100 million guarantee.
Roundtable: Response to Coordinator Hiring by the Detroit Lions

analyzing the effects of new coordinators on the Detroit Lions.
1.) How do you feel about the coordinator hires made by the Lions?
Christian Booher: I believe Kelvin Sheppard’s promotion to defensive coordinator was the right move for the Lions. In terms of leadership, he meets all the requirements, worked closely with Aaron Glenn, and will provide some continuity to the unit. He is close to Campbell and appears to have the defense’s support.
Even though John Morton’s first NFL season as a coordinator didn’t go well, I find the hire to be really intriguing. He appears to be a good fit because, according to many, he played a key role behind the scenes in putting the Lions’ offensive scheme in place. Since he should contribute some ideas to Dan Campbell’s overall plan, I like the external hire. Morton and Campbell should work well together because Campbell has an offensive mind and will probably be very hands-on. Given the high expectations for the Lions this season, I’m eager to see how both hires perform.
Vito Chirco: John Morton as OC and Kelvin Sheppard as DC weren’t attractive, well-known hires. On the surface, though, they were the right hires and will help both teams stay competitive. Additionally, Sheppard should help the defense advance with some defensive additions, allowing the Lions to go farther in the playoffs the following season.
2.) Do you believe there will be a significant shift in the Lions’ offense?
Booher: I don’t believe there will be any significant changes in the near future. Morton has previously worked with the team, and Campbell expressed a desire for continuity with the team’s philosophy during his final press conference. He has also spent time with Sean Payton, Campbell’s mentor. In 2025, Detroit’s offense should look very similar, in my opinion.
Though I believe the Lions’ offense will essentially remain the same, I wouldn’t be shocked to see some new packages or schematic components. Morton can add fresh elements, but Campbell has an offensive mind and will always be involved. It’s interesting, but I think the fundamentals will not change.
Chirco: No, I don’t. When Ben Johnson became the offensive coordinator in 2022, John Morton was a senior offensive assistant. Additionally, based on what you’ve read about the two, they are essentially the same and have a lot in common. Actually, Johnson’s first season as an offensive play-caller was heavily impacted by Morton. In my opinion, Morton will stick with most of the same schemes, which will allow Detroit’s offense to keep playing well as the 2025 season approaches.
3.) Is Jared Goff someone you trust?
Booher: Right now, definitely. Goff has, in my opinion, accomplished a great deal for the company and has the capacity to accomplish much more. Nevertheless, this coming season will be significant. With a new coordinator, he will have the chance to demonstrate that working under Ben Johnson’s system was not the only factor in his success.
Although Goff’s shortcomings were revealed during the postseason, he has attended a Super Bowl and led the Lions to the brink of their 2023 debut. Although I’m not quite ready to move on, there should be high expectations for him now that his sizable contract extension is about to take effect.
Chirco: Despite his four turnovers in Detroit’s playoff loss in the divisional round, I do believe he is a top-tier game manager. Is he elite now? No. However, what exactly does that mean in the modern world?
Ultimately, I believe that Goff is capable of leading the Lions to the Super Bowl given the current configuration of Detroit’s offense. And that is the only thing that counts.

4.) At the Senior Bowl, who made an impression on you?
Marshall EDGE defender BooherMike Green emerged victorious in the early stages of the combine. Because of how well he played in the practice settings, which was a huge win for his draft stock, he ended up not playing the game. Despite his impressive performance, there is no assurance that he will even reach the 28th overall pick, even though he should be the Lions’ favorite in the first round.
One of the most talked-about stories from the Senior Bowl was Jack Bech, a wide receiver for TCU. Bech caught the game-winning touchdown and was named the game’s MVP after losing his brother tragically. With his size and speed, he is an intriguing wide receiver who made a few spectacular catches during the game. Given Detroit’s need for depth at young receiver, he is a prospect worth keeping an eye on.
Chirco: Marshall Edge is my choice. Mike Green and Maxwell Hairston, a cornerback for Kentucky.
During the week of practices in Mobile, Green showed some high-end speed and the ability to win one-on-one in a number of ways, making him a realistic target for the Lions at No. 28 overall.
At the Senior Bowl, Hairston also had the appearance of a top-tier cover corner. He would fit right in with Detroit’s cornerbacks.
5.) Are you planning to watch the Super Bowl?
Booher:Even though it will hurt, I will watch the game that the Lions seemed destined to play in. It would be difficult for me to miss the most important game of the year as a general sports fan. Although the absence of the Lions will be somewhat disappointing, the game itself ought to be good. Enjoying the last game of the season is advised because it will be the last opportunity to watch NFL football until the preseason in August.
Chirco: Definitely. I’ll never be mistaken for a fan of either team, and I think Josh Allen and Buffalo were somewhat cheated by the Bills’ failure to defeat the Chiefs. I will continue to watch, though. Furthermore, I wager that 99.9% of Lions supporters who have stated that they will not watch will also be watching the “big game” on Sunday.
