Duke’s men’s basketball team will face Syracuse on Wednesday, looking to win their 20th game of the season and 16th in a row. However, the Blue Devils will be without senior sharpshooter Mason Gillis.

Gillis, who had spent the previous four years with the Purdue Boilermakers before transferring to Duke this offseason, did not travel with the team due to illness.

In 14.4 minutes per game, the first-year Blue Devil averages 4.8 points and makes 36.4% of his 3-point attempts, and he has scored in double figures four times. His most productive game in a Duke uniform came last month against Miami, when he made four of six triples and scored a season-high 12 points.

Gillis missed 24 of his first 32 attempts from beyond the arc to begin the season, but since the team returned from holiday break against Virginia Tech on December 31, he has shot 12-for-23 (52.2%) in nine games.

Even without Gillis on the court, the Blue Devils have an abundance of 3-pointers. Isaiah Evans (45.2%), Tyrese Proctor (38.8%), and Kon Knueppel (37.7%) have maintained their efficiency on 16.0 combined attempts per night, but Duke will still be without an additional option off the bench against the Orange.
