Thunder-Pacers NBA Finals feature first since Stephen Curry and Kyrie Irving
The 2025 NBA Finals are set to feature a compelling matchup between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Indiana Pacers, marking a significant moment in basketball history. This series brings together two franchises that have taken unique paths to reach the pinnacle of the sport, both seeking their first NBA championship.
The Thunder, led by MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, have demonstrated dominance throughout the season, finishing with a 68-14 regular-season record and a strong 12-4 playoff performance. Their journey to the Finals included a decisive victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves in the Western Conference Finals.
On the other side, the Pacers have shown resilience and growth, culminating in a 4-2 series win against the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals. Tyrese Haliburton has been instrumental in orchestrating the Pacers’ offense, leading the team with his playmaking abilities.
This Finals matchup is notable for being the first since the 2016 series between Stephen Curry’s Warriors and Kyrie Irving’s Cavaliers to feature two teams without a prior championship.
The series also highlights the impact of past trades, particularly those involving Paul George. George’s moves from the Pacers to the Thunder, and subsequently to the Clippers, set off a chain of events that helped shape both current rosters.
As the Finals commence, fans can look forward to a series filled with strategic battles, emerging stars, and the potential for a new champion to be crowned. The games will be broadcast live on ABC, starting Thursday, June 5.
