Tottenham’s transfer news: Fabrizio Romano reveals move is NOT occurring and the ‘formal’ proposal was ‘never sent’.

A long-rumored Tottenham deal is not imminent, and Fabrizio Romano says it is unlikely to be completed during the current window.

Tottenham’s transfer market has erupted over the last week, with the £55 million signing of Mohammed Kudus completed on Thursday.

Spurs then signed Morgan Gibbs-White, Nottingham Forest’s vice-captain. Spurs agreed to Gibbs-White’s personal conditions and activated his £60 million release clause.

However, Forest believe Spurs approached the 25-year-old illegally, and that Tottenham never had authorization to talk with the youngster.

That move is on hold for the time being as Forest consults with their legal team to evaluate their next steps.

Tottenham has been extensively linked with selling centre-back Cristian Romero. Both Madrid clubs are routinely discussed, with Atletico considered the more eager of the two.

Indeed, Spanish publication AS reported that Atleti had sanctioned a €70 million bid for the Argentine after Diego Simeone personally requested the transfer.

However, according to transfer guru Romano, Romero will not only not join Atleti, but will not leave Spurs this summer at all.

“Despite all of the stories you’ve heard this summer, Cuti Romero is not going to Atletico Madrid,” Romano announced on his YouTube account.

“The recognition is clear; Romero is one of the top centre-backs in the world.

“However, Atletico Madrid never made a formal approach to Tottenham or to the player on personal terms.

“We often heard ‘it was done’ with the player and ‘it was going to get done’ between the teams… There is currently no relationship between Romero and Atletico Madrid.

“I expect Romero probably this summer to stay at Tottenham unless something surprising happens.”

The latest on Morgan Gibbs-White

Romano also addressed the Gibbs-White incident, stating, “Forest has begun working on legal action against Tottenham.”

“They think that the manner they handled the release clause was incorrect, and that they were not permitted to interact with the athlete. They are not happy at all.

“They spoke with the Premier League, and the Premier League will now look into this story.

“But Tottenham maintains their position; they are confident in their actions and want to proceed with the transaction. They want to sign the player.

“Nottingham Forest are ready to fight, so we’ll see what happens there. But there is little doubt that the Gibbs-White deal has become a stumbling block for the two teams.”

Romano finished by saying Tottenham is “hopeful and confident” that they will sign the offensive midfielder when all is said and done.

There is no indication that Spurs will pull the plug on the move anytime soon.
