Led Zeppelin Uses Shrek Clip and Karaoke Cover in New Ad Campaign*
Led Zeppelin has launched a new series of online ads that creatively promote their music using a scene from the 2007 movie *Shrek the Third* and a karaoke version of one of their iconic tracks.
Since August 11, Instagram ads have been running that feature a scene from *Shrek the Third* paired with Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song.” The clip includes a moment where Snow White fights off two evil trees, Steve and Ed. This song was originally licensed for use in the movie.
The ad, targeted at German-speaking users, includes the caption: “From the land of ice and snow comes one of the most powerful intros in rock history: Led Zeppelin’s ‘Immigrant Song.’” Facebook’s Ad Library confirms Warner Music Group paid to target more than 30,000 people in Germany and Austria.
Another ad, aimed specifically at French users, welcomes “rock gods” to the “Led Zeppelin zone” and features a mix of “Immigrant Song,” “Stairway to Heaven,” and “Whole Lotta Love.” However, instead of the original version of “Whole Lotta Love,” the ad mistakenly uses a 2007 karaoke cover by The Hit Crew, a group known for releasing singalong tracks.
These promotions come as part of Warner Music Group’s efforts to boost interest in upcoming releases from both Led Zeppelin and Robert Plant. Since early August, six different Facebook and Instagram ads have been promoting Led Zeppelin’s *Live EP*, set for release on September 12. Advertising for the EP began as early as August 1. Meanwhile, Robert Plant’s label has also been actively promoting his upcoming projects since
