Rafael Benitez explains what ‘Newcastle United insiders’ have told him about Alexander Isak with Liverpool.l
Liverpool signed Alexander Isak on transfer deadline day, following a serious transfer issue with Newcastle United.
Alexander Isak made his Liverpool debut on Wednesday night, more than a fortnight after arriving at Anfield.
Weeks of speculation came to an end when Isak joined Liverpool for £125 million from Newcastle United on transfer deadline day.
The international break delayed Isak’s Liverpool debut, and Arne Slot left him out against Burnley.
Liverpool did not want to hurry Isak into action, thus he was named to the starting XI against Atletico Madrid.

Rafael Benitez discusses Newcastle United’s reaction to Alexander Isak’s Liverpool signing.
Isak impressed alongside Florian Wirtz in Liverpool’s squad, and he tested Jan Oblak with a couple of shots as Liverpool defeated Atletico 3-2 at Anfield.
Virgil van Dijk’s winner gave Liverpool the victory after they lost a 2-0 lead against the La Liga side.
Before the game, former Liverpool and Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez spoke with TNT Sports (17/09, 7:15pm) on Isak’s transfer to Anfield.
Benitez claimed to have spoken with ‘Newcastle people’, probably referring to St James’ Park employees.
Benitez stated that Isak is already missed at Newcastle, while also admiring his playing style.
The Spaniard believes Isak will be a ‘fantastic addition’ for Liverpool, although Newcastle will miss his attacking presence.
“I will tell you a secret; talking with Newcastle United people, they say they are missing him because he was doing so well. He adapted to the style and game, he’s clever, he can play in the middle but go wide, and he runs in behind…” I believe he will be an excellent signing for Liverpool and a significant loss for Newcastle United,” remarked Benitez.
Newcastle United’s attackers face mixed chances following Alexander Isak’s departure.
Any side would miss a striker of Isak’s calibre, so it was no surprise that he caught the eye against Atletico.
Newcastle are hunting for new offensive heroes, but Eddie Howe’s new attackers are having mixed results.
Yoane Wissa joined Newcastle from Brentford, but an injury sustained while on international duty with DR Congo means he won’t be able to play until at least October.
Nick Woltemade also joined Newcastle, completing a lucrative transfer from Bundesliga club Stuttgart.
Woltemade scored the winner in his debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers last Saturday, utilising his massive body to head the ball home at St James’ Park.
Wissa’s Newcastle career is off to a difficult start, but Woltemade will aim to build on his early success against Barcelona on Thursday.
