Mikaela Shiffrin has had a great year, and her mother, Eileen Shiffrin, is glad for it. The alpine ski racer’s mother turned to Instagram to send a heartfelt message of thanks, reflecting on how wonderful Thanksgiving week was for her family.

Mikaela maintained her Slalom supremacy with a stunning victory on home snow in Copper Mountain, Colorado. This was her 104th World Cup triumph and 67th Slalom win.

What did Mikaela Shiffrin’s mother say about Thanksgiving week?

Thanksgiving week was especially exciting for Eileen since she got to see her daughter achieve a significant career milestone in Copper. She also observed her daughter’s fiancé, Aleksander Kilde, make his memorable return to the slopes after missing nearly two years due to an injury.

Eileen celebrated the holiday with an Instagram post that included photos of herself, Mikaela, Kilde, and other loved ones. In the caption, she wrote a passionate comment about how eventful her week had been.

“Thanksgiving week began with A.Kilde’s first race in two years, following a difficult recuperation journey. Miki’s brave GS performance after her own injury last year was followed by flashes of brilliance from all of our US SL ladies, including the young ones,” she wrote.

The athlete’s mother praised Paula Moltzan for her “grit and resilience” following a “nasty fall” during her second SL run. She then congratulated her daughter, Mikaela, for delivering “the goods with spectacular skiing” on home snow.

Eileen thanked Copper Mountain and the event organizers for hosting an exciting World Cup race.

“Thanks so much to all of the volunteers and Copper staff who worked tirelessly to prepare the hill, move tons of snow by hand, and do it all with a smile (the IKON way) to the end,” she told me.

Mikaela won the Super-G race in Colorado by 1.57 seconds over Lena Duerr, clinching the title. Meanwhile, Lara Colturi finished in third place, trailing Duerr.

How Miakaela Shiffrin Cried When Aleksander Kilde Made His Comeback

Mikaela’s boyfriend, Kilde, received a severe injury to his right leg and left shoulder. The Norwegian Alpine Ski racer took a 685-day sabbatical from skiing before making his much awaited return on the first day of the World Cup, at the Copper Cup.

Mikaela, Kilde’s fiancée, waited patiently at the finish line to cheer him on. Mikaela’s emotional reaction to Kilde’s descent on the slopes was captured on Instagram. She was also spotted applauding and bouncing up and down with enthusiasm.

Kilde finished the race in 1 minute 8.95 seconds and placed 24th.
