Hull City strike agreements for Hirakawa and Collyer signings

Hull City are set to complete the signings of Yu Hirakawa and Toby Collyer after reaching agreements with Bristol City and Manchester United during the January transfer window.

Tigers boss Sergej Jakirovic has confirmed that both moves are at an advanced stage, with Hirakawa’s switch already subject only to a medical examination, while Collyer is expected to undergo checks this weekend before officially joining early next week.

Speaking to BBC Radio Humberside, Jakirovic explained that Hull have finalised terms with Bristol City for Hirakawa and are now waiting for the final formalities to be completed.

“With Yu Hirakawa, we have agreed everything with Bristol City,” Jakirovic said. “After his medical on Sunday, he will speak to the media and become our player.”

The Hull manager highlighted the versatility and athletic qualities that attracted the club to the Japanese midfielder, stressing that he adds flexibility across several positions.

“He gives us speed, strong technical ability, and more tactical options,” Jakirovic added. “He can operate on the right, the left, as a winger or as a wing-back. He covers a lot of roles.”

Hirakawa could be thrown straight into action, with Jakirovic indicating the new arrival may be available for selection as early as Tuesday’s Championship clash away at Preston North End.

“There is a chance he could be involved on Tuesday because he is fit, in good condition, and training regularly,” the Hull boss said.

The 25-year-old looks to have played his final game for Bristol City on Saturday, when he appeared as a second-half substitute in their 0-0 draw with Oxford United. That outing took his total league appearances for the Robins to 60.

Meanwhile, Hull are also closing in on the capture of Toby Collyer from Manchester United. Jakirovic revealed that the Tigers have received the green light from Old Trafford, with the midfielder expected to complete his medical shortly.

“With Toby Collyer, we are just waiting, but we have a green light from Manchester United,” Jakirovic explained. “Everything has been agreed, and he should have his medical this weekend before joining us on Monday.”
