Crystal Palace now aims to sign both Frank Lampard and the “amazing” £25m Coventry City star.

Crystal Palace Target New Manager as Glasner Exit Nears
Crystal Palace are stepping up their search for a new manager as the anticipated departure of Oliver Glasner draws closer to becoming a reality. With the end of the season approaching, the club’s hierarchy, led by chairman Steve Parish, has been actively exploring potential replacements to ensure a smooth transition ahead of the next campaign.

A number of candidates have been identified as possible successors, each bringing different strengths and managerial profiles. Among those considered are Andoni Iraola, Sean Dyche, Robbie Keane, Thomas Frank, and Liam Rosenior. These names reflect a diverse shortlist, ranging from experienced Premier League figures to emerging coaches making their mark in European football.
Interestingly, Iraola could soon become more accessible, as the Bournemouth boss has indicated his intention to leave his current role at the end of the season. However, his availability has not gone unnoticed, with top clubs such as Liverpool and Manchester United also reportedly monitoring his situation. This level of competition may make it difficult for Palace to secure his services.
Frank Lampard Emerges as a Leading Candidate
Given the intense competition for some of their primary targets, Palace may turn their attention to more attainable options. One such candidate is Frank Lampard, who has impressed during his time in charge of Coventry City. Parish is believed to be a strong admirer of Lampard’s work, particularly as he edges closer to guiding the Sky Blues toward promotion to the Premier League in what is shaping up to be his first full season at the helm.
Lampard’s record at Coventry underlines his impact. Across 78 matches, he has overseen 43 victories, alongside 15 draws and 20 defeats, averaging an impressive 1.85 points per game. This level of performance has not only boosted Coventry’s promotion hopes but also enhanced Lampard’s reputation as a manager capable of building competitive teams.
Despite Palace’s interest, prising Lampard away from Coventry will not be straightforward. The Championship side are keen to retain their manager, especially given the progress made under his leadership. Furthermore, Lampard remains under contract at the CBS Arena until the summer of 2027, placing Coventry in a strong position to resist any approaches.
Eagles Eye Milan van Ewijk in Transfer Raid
In addition to their managerial search, Palace are also reportedly targeting reinforcements on the pitch. One player who has caught their attention is Milan van Ewijk, a key figure in Coventry’s squad. The right-back has been instrumental in the club’s promotion push, missing just two Championship matches throughout the campaign, which highlights both his consistency and importance to the team.
Reports suggest Palace are seriously considering a move for the defender, potentially looking to secure his signature regardless of whether they succeed in appointing Lampard. However, Coventry are expected to demand a substantial fee for one of their standout performers, with figures in the region of £25 million being mentioned.
Competition for Van Ewijk’s signature is also intensifying, as several Premier League clubs have taken notice of his performances. Brighton & Hove Albion, Everton, and AFC Bournemouth are all believed to be monitoring the situation closely, which could drive up both interest and valuation.
Van Ewijk’s Impact and Lampard’s Praise
Van Ewijk’s appeal is easy to understand when examining his contributions this season. The full-back has registered eight assists in the Championship, the highest tally among his Coventry teammates, underlining his attacking influence from a defensive position. His ability to contribute in the final third, combined with his reliability at the back, has made him one of the standout players in the squad.
Lampard himself has been vocal in his admiration for the Dutch defender. Toward the latter stages of the 2024–25 campaign, the Coventry boss highlighted Van Ewijk’s consistency and overall quality, describing him as “absolutely amazing.” He also pointed to the player’s durability, noting that he features in virtually every game and has delivered an outstanding season.
Palace Face Crucial Decisions Ahead
As the summer approaches, Crystal Palace find themselves at a pivotal juncture, with key decisions to be made both in the dugout and in the transfer market. Securing the right managerial appointment will be essential in shaping the club’s direction, while potential signings like Van Ewijk could play a major role in strengthening the squad.
Whether Palace succeed in landing Lampard or persuading Coventry to part ways with one of their star players remains uncertain. However, their dual interest in both the manager and the defender signals clear intent as they prepare for a new chapter following Glasner’s expected departure.
