It’s time to go, claims Keith Jackson after Rangers sack verdict on Rohl.

Danny Röhl is facing growing pressure over his future at Rangers following the club’s damaging 3-1 defeat against Celtic in Sunday’s William Hill Premiership clash at Parkhead.

The latest Old Firm loss has intensified scrutiny surrounding the 37-year-old head coach, with Daily Record journalist Keith Jackson now suggesting that Rangers owner Andrew Cavenagh should seriously consider making a managerial change this summer.

Jackson has remained unconvinced by Röhl’s performances against some of the division’s more experienced managers since the German took charge at Ibrox earlier this season.

The defeat to Celtic marked Rangers’ third consecutive loss since the league split began, with defeats against Motherwell and Hearts also contributing to the collapse of the Light Blues’ title challenge.

Although Cavenagh is believed to still support Röhl for the time being, there is increasing frustration among sections of the Rangers support, and it remains unclear whether the growing pressure from fans could eventually force the club’s hierarchy into rethinking the situation at Ibrox.

Jackson Believes Rangers Should “Twist”

Writing in the Daily Record on 11 May, Jackson made it clear he believes Rangers should move in a different direction rather than continue with Röhl at the helm.

When discussing whether Cavenagh should persist with the current manager or make a change, Jackson said: “It’s time to twist.”

The experienced journalist also highlighted Röhl’s disappointing record against rival managers, arguing that the German has repeatedly been tactically outclassed in crucial matches.

Jackson pointed out that Röhl has managed only three victories from 12 meetings against managers including Martin O’Neill, Derek McInnes, Jens Berthel Askou and John McGlynn.

According to Jackson, those struggles suggest the Rangers boss is frequently being “outmanoeuvred” by coaches with greater experience and know-how.

Momentum Has Completely Disappeared

Prior to the post-split fixtures, Rangers appeared to have momentum on their side and looked capable of mounting a serious push for the Scottish Premiership title.

At one stage, the Light Blues had their destiny firmly in their own hands. Victory in every remaining league game would have guaranteed title number 56 at Ibrox and cemented Röhl’s place in club history.

Instead, the opposite has happened.

Defeats against Motherwell, Hearts and Celtic have left Rangers watching their title hopes crumble at the most important stage of the season.

The loss at Parkhead was particularly painful given the magnitude of the occasion and the pressure surrounding the Old Firm rivalry.

Despite enjoying 49 percent possession and creating a respectable expected goals tally of 0.91, Rangers ultimately failed to capitalise on key moments, while Celtic proved far more clinical in front of goal.

According to Sofascore statistics from the derby, Celtic registered 51 percent possession, produced an xG of 1.04 and created three big chances compared to Rangers’ two.

The Parkhead side also managed nine total shots and forced two saves from the Rangers goalkeeper as they overturned the visitors in convincing fashion.

Röhl Still Deserves Credit

Although criticism surrounding Röhl has increased dramatically in recent weeks, there remains an argument that the German coach deserves recognition for the work he carried out earlier in the campaign.

When Röhl arrived at Ibrox, Rangers were sitting 13 points behind Celtic in the league table and looked to be drifting away from the title race entirely.

The former Sheffield Wednesday manager immediately improved performances and results, guiding the club back into contention in the William Hill Premiership.

For a period, it appeared as though Rangers could complete a remarkable comeback and wrestle the title away from Celtic despite the difficult position they had found themselves in.

Supporters praised Röhl’s tactical approach, energy and ability to quickly restore belief within the squad.

However, the dramatic downturn since the split has now raised serious doubts about whether he can handle the pressure that comes with leading Rangers during decisive moments of a title race.

Questions Growing At Ibrox

As Rangers continue to fall short in major fixtures, frustration among supporters in G51 has intensified.

Many fans believe the team have failed to cope with pressure during the most critical part of the campaign, and some have started questioning whether Röhl possesses the experience needed to deliver trophies consistently at a club with Rangers’ expectations.

There is also a feeling among sections of the support that a huge opportunity has slipped away over the last few weeks.

Given the position Rangers had worked themselves into before the split, the club seemed perfectly placed to complete a memorable title charge.

Instead, a series of disappointing performances has left supporters wondering how things unraveled so quickly.

At some stage, Rangers’ hierarchy may decide a detailed review of the final weeks of the campaign is necessary in order to understand why the collapse occurred.

Steven Gerrard Could Re-Enter The Picture

Should Rangers eventually decide to part company with Röhl, one familiar name continues to hover in the background.

Steven Gerrard remains available and could become a serious option if the Ibrox hierarchy choose to make a managerial change this summer.

The former Rangers boss had already been linked with a return to Glasgow following the departure of Russell Martin, although no deal materialised at that stage.

Gerrard previously delivered Rangers’ long-awaited league title triumph and ended Celtic’s dominance by guiding the club to an unbeaten Premiership campaign.

That success means he still holds significant popularity among many supporters.

For Cavenagh and the Rangers board, the possibility of bringing back a proven title-winning manager may become increasingly tempting if uncertainty surrounding Röhl continues to grow.

Immediate Success Could Shape Decision

Röhl is still regarded as a talented young coach with considerable long-term potential, and there remains a belief that Rangers could still build a successful project around him in the future.

However, Rangers are a club where patience is often limited and immediate success is demanded every season.

That reality may ultimately influence the thinking inside the Ibrox boardroom over the coming months.

While Röhl represents a modern and progressive coaching appointment, Gerrard offers experience, familiarity and a proven record of delivering league success in Glasgow.

As Rangers prepare for a crucial summer, the debate surrounding Röhl’s future looks set to intensify even further following another painful Old Firm defeat against Celtic.
