Andy Robertson receives an emotional Liverpool farewell with a giant Anfield tifo as his next club is ‘confirmed’.
Andy Robertson received an emotional farewell from Liverpool supporters as the Scotland captain made what appears to have been his final appearance at Anfield during the 1-1 draw against Brentford on Sunday.
The 32-year-old defender was honoured before kick-off with a giant tifo displayed across the lower Sir Kenny Dalglish Stand. The tribute featured the words “Robbo 26” in recognition of the left-back’s extraordinary contribution during his nine years on Merseyside.

As the teams emerged onto the pitch, the display immediately created an emotional atmosphere around Anfield, with supporters eager to show their appreciation for one of the club’s modern-day legends.
Robertson’s farewell became even more emotional later in the match when he was substituted in the 83rd minute for Milos Kerkez. The Scotland international received a standing ovation from all corners of the stadium as he walked off the pitch for the final time as a Liverpool player.

The occasion carried additional significance following widespread reports that Robertson’s next destination has already effectively been decided.
Robertson Expected To Begin New Chapter At Tottenham
Last month, Robertson confirmed that he would be leaving Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the season, bringing an end to a hugely successful era with the club.
Now, the experienced full-back is widely expected to complete a move to Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer.
Reports have suggested that a verbal agreement had already been reached between Robertson and the North London club, with the move dependent on Tottenham avoiding relegation from the Premier League.
Spurs secured their top-flight status on the final day of the season thanks to a 1-0 victory over Everton, clearing the way for Robertson to potentially complete his switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the coming weeks.
While attention will soon turn toward that next chapter in his career, the focus at Anfield remained firmly on celebrating everything Robertson achieved during his unforgettable time at Liverpool.
Emotional Scenes After Final Whistle
The emotional tributes continued after the final whistle following the 1-1 draw with Brentford.
Robertson returned to the pitch alongside Mohamed Salah, who was also making his final appearance for Liverpool. Both players were given a guard of honour by their teammates as supporters rose once again to applaud two players who played major roles in one of the most successful periods in the club’s recent history.
The emotional atmosphere intensified further as the Anfield crowd serenaded Robertson and Salah with a powerful rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
For many supporters, it marked the end of an era. Robertson and Salah were central figures in Liverpool’s trophy-winning side under Jürgen Klopp, helping the club reclaim major honours domestically and in Europe.
The scenes after the match reflected the affection Liverpool supporters still hold for both players and the appreciation for everything they achieved during their time at the club.
Robertson Admits Farewell Was Emotionally Exhausting
After the match, Robertson admitted the experience had left him emotionally overwhelmed.
The Scotland captain described himself as “emotionally drained” following such an intense week, explaining how difficult it had been balancing preparations for the Brentford match while also processing the emotions of saying goodbye to Liverpool.
Despite leaving the club, Robertson made it clear he still considers Liverpool part of his family and believes he will always remain connected to Anfield.
He spoke warmly about how much the club means to him and suggested that although this chapter of his career has ended, his relationship with Liverpool will continue long into the future.
Robertson also explained that while his departure was emotional, he still has major ambitions remaining in football. Attention will soon shift toward international duty with the Scotland national football team as preparations begin for the upcoming World Cup campaign.
Before that, however, the defender said he planned to briefly switch off mentally after such a demanding and emotional conclusion to the season.
Liverpool Secure Champions League Football
The match itself finished 1-1 after Curtis Jones gave Liverpool the lead before Kevin Schade equalised for Brentford with a diving header.
Brentford narrowly missed out on what would have been the club’s first qualification for European competition, while the point ensured Liverpool secured qualification for next season’s Champions League.
Robertson acknowledged the importance of achieving that objective, admitting it had been a hugely disappointing campaign overall for Liverpool.
He stressed that returning to the Champions League was absolutely essential for the club and revealed he felt particularly relieved that both he and Salah would leave Liverpool knowing the team had secured a place back among Europe’s elite clubs.
The defender admitted Liverpool had perhaps “limped over the line” during the closing stages of the season, but he still viewed qualification as a critical achievement considering the difficulties the team endured throughout the campaign.
Mohamed Salah Pays Tribute To Robertson
Salah also spoke emotionally after the match and paid tribute to Robertson following their final appearance together in a Liverpool shirt.
The Egyptian forward admitted he had cried heavily while processing the emotions of leaving the club and described it as incredibly difficult to walk away from a place that had meant so much to him.
Salah praised Robertson’s importance to the dressing room and said he felt honoured to have shared so many years alongside him at Liverpool.
According to Salah, Robertson consistently put the team first and was someone who brought enormous value both on and off the pitch.
Their partnership on Liverpool’s left side became one of the defining features of the club’s success during the Klopp era, with Robertson’s relentless energy and Salah’s goals helping deliver multiple trophies.
The farewell therefore represented not just the departure of two elite footballers, but also the end of one of the most successful partnerships in modern Liverpool history.
Robertson Also Pays Tribute To Pep Guardiola
During his post-match reflections, Robertson also took time to praise departing Pep Guardiola manager of Manchester City.
The Scotland captain acknowledged the enormous impact Guardiola had on Liverpool during recent years, explaining that the Spaniard pushed Klopp’s side to levels they may never otherwise have reached.
Robertson admitted Liverpool probably would have won more Premier League titles had Guardiola’s Manchester City side not been so dominant throughout the era.
Despite the fierce rivalry between the clubs, Robertson expressed huge respect for Guardiola’s achievements and described him as an incredible servant to Manchester City.
He concluded by wishing Guardiola well for the future, recognising the role he played in shaping one of the most competitive and memorable periods in Premier League history.
For Robertson himself, meanwhile, the emotional scenes at Anfield marked the conclusion of a remarkable nine-year journey — one that transformed him from a bargain signing into one of Liverpool’s most beloved modern legends before the next stage of his career begins elsewhere.
