Lawrence Shankland has admitted that finally fulfilling his dream of joining Rangers has helped ease the emotional pain surrounding his controversial departure from Heart of Midlothian.

The Scotland international officially completed his move to Ibrox after bringing an end to a hugely successful four-year spell at Tynecastle.

Shankland’s exit has stunned many Hearts supporters, particularly because the striker captained the club and became one of the most influential figures in the squad during his time in Edinburgh.

The forward activated a clause in his contract which allowed him to leave the club for free this summer, creating a major blow for Hearts following an emotionally devastating end to the season.

The timing has made the situation even more painful for supporters, coming only days after the club’s dramatic title collapse at Celtic.

However, for Shankland himself, the opportunity to join the club he supported as a boy ultimately proved impossible to reject.

Rangers Dream Too Big To Ignore

After years of speculation repeatedly linking him with a move to Ibrox, Shankland admitted he was thrilled to finally complete the transfer.

The striker acknowledged that discussions about Rangers had followed him for much of his career, making the move feel like something that had been building for a long time.

Now, after finally becoming a Rangers player, he says he is simply delighted to have secured the opportunity.

Shankland described the transfer as a huge moment in his career and stressed that enormous amounts of hard work had gone into reaching this stage.

He explained that joining Rangers represents far more than simply changing clubs.

For him, it is the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition.

The new Rangers striker also made clear that he is not arriving at Ibrox merely to participate.

Instead, he wants to become a genuinely successful player at the club and help Rangers return to consistently winning major honours.

Determined To Leave Mark At Ibrox

Shankland acknowledged the intense pressure that comes with playing for Rangers and understands how quickly players can be forgotten if they fail to deliver success.

That reality is something he fully embraces.

The Scotland international said he wants to become one of the players supporters remember positively because of the impact he makes during his time at the club.

He believes Rangers should be competing regularly for league titles and major trophies, and he is determined to contribute heavily toward achieving those goals.

According to Shankland, helping restore consistent success at Ibrox is one of the main reasons he decided to make the move.

The striker stressed that he wants to become a major figure in Rangers’ future success rather than simply another player who passes through the club.

Emotional Goodbye To Hearts

Although the move to Rangers fulfils a personal dream, Shankland admitted leaving Hearts was far from straightforward emotionally.

He explained that decisions involving leaving clubs are never easy, particularly when the club has played such a major role in both professional and family life.

However, he acknowledged that Rangers being his boyhood team inevitably made the choice somewhat easier.

Despite leaving Tynecastle, Shankland spoke warmly about Hearts and insisted he remains deeply grateful for everything the club gave him.

The striker highlighted how important the last four years in Edinburgh have been for both himself and his family.

He thanked Hearts for giving him the opportunity in the first place and emphasised that he will always appreciate the faith the club showed in him.

Shankland also expressed happiness that he believes he is leaving on positive terms with the people connected to the club.

Outstanding Record At Tynecastle

Shankland departs Hearts after producing an exceptional scoring record during his four seasons in maroon.

Across 171 appearances, the striker scored 88 goals and established himself as one of the most feared forwards in Scottish football.

His goals consistently made him one of Hearts’ most important players and elevated him into captaincy responsibilities.

During his time in Gorgie, he became adored by supporters for his finishing ability, work ethic, leadership, and consistency in front of goal.

The striker’s performances also helped strengthen his position within the Scotland national football team setup.

As previously reported by Record Sport, Shankland has signed a two-year contract at Rangers, with the option of an additional third year included in the agreement.

The transfer itself has officially been completed for undisclosed terms.

Choosing Rangers’ Number Seven Shirt

One interesting detail surrounding Shankland’s arrival concerns his squad number at Ibrox.

At Hearts, the striker wore the famous number nine shirt throughout his time at the club.

However, that number is currently occupied at Rangers by new strike partner Youssef Chermiti.

As a result, Shankland was forced to select a different number for his Rangers career.

He has ultimately chosen the iconic number seven shirt.

Although Shankland insisted the decision was partly influenced simply by availability within the squad, he admitted the number carries special significance because of the legendary players who have worn it previously.

Inspired By Rangers Legends

Reflecting on the number seven jersey, Shankland mentioned several Rangers heroes who immediately came to mind.

Among the names he referenced were Claudio Caniggia and Shota Arveladze, both of whom became fan favourites during their time at Ibrox.

He also mentioned Ianis Hagi as a more recent wearer of the number.

Going even further back, Shankland referenced legendary winger Davie Cooper as another iconic Rangers figure associated with the jersey.

Ultimately, though, the striker insisted any shirt number at Rangers feels special because of the stature and history of the club.

He made clear that he feels honoured simply to wear the Rangers shirt regardless of the number attached to it.

Immediate Focus Turns To Scotland Duty

Having completed his medical and finalised the transfer, Shankland will now immediately switch focus toward international duty.

The striker is due to join up with Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad ahead of their upcoming World Cup preparations.

Scotland face Curaçao national football team in a farewell match on Saturday before travelling for the tournament itself.

Although his immediate attention now turns toward international football, Shankland has already begun thinking about what success at Rangers could look like in the coming years.

After coming agonisingly close to winning trophies with Hearts, the striker is eager to finally go one step further at Ibrox.

Trophy Ambition Driving Shankland

Shankland stressed repeatedly that winning trophies remains his primary objective.

He explained that when players arrive at a club like Rangers and walk around the training ground, they immediately see photographs, trophies, and reminders of previous success everywhere.

According to the striker, that environment naturally inspires players to want to add their own achievements to the club’s history.

He admitted that one of his biggest ambitions is to leave behind his own legacy at Rangers and ensure supporters remember his contribution positively long after he eventually departs.

For Shankland, success is about far more than individual statistics.

Instead, he wants to be part of winning teams and major moments that supporters will remember for years.

Danny Rohl Wanted Leadership

New Rangers manager Danny Röhl has already spoken publicly about wanting to add more leadership qualities to his squad this summer.

The German coach clearly believes Shankland fits that profile perfectly.

Rohl praised the striker’s proven ability, professionalism, leadership, and work ethic after the deal was confirmed.

He also highlighted the Scotland international’s impressive goalscoring record and emphasised that Shankland fully understands the expectations that come with representing Rangers.

According to Rohl, the striker’s experience and mentality will provide a huge boost to the dressing room moving forward.

The Rangers boss also wished Shankland well for the upcoming World Cup before confirming he is looking forward to working with him properly during pre-season preparations in Glasgow.

Rangers Continue Transfer Activity

While Shankland represents one of Rangers’ major summer additions so far, recruitment work continues behind the scenes at Ibrox.

Reports suggest the club still admire former Sunderland captain Dan Neil, although a transfer is not believed to be close at this stage.

However, Rangers are expected to increase their efforts regarding another Scottish target.

The club are reportedly preparing to formalise their interest in highly-rated Dundee defender Luke Graham.

For now, though, attention remains firmly focused on Shankland’s arrival.

After years of speculation, one of Scotland’s most prolific strikers has finally completed the move many expected for a long time.

And while his departure from Hearts has caused heartbreak among supporters in Edinburgh, Shankland believes the opportunity to represent his boyhood club was simply impossible to refuse.
