Thanks to an update from Sky Sports elsewhere, Rangers are now one step nearer to securing a marquee signing.
Rangers may have received an unexpected boost in their hopes of bringing Mikey Moore back to Ibrox, with recent developments at Tottenham Hotspur potentially working in their favour.
The Glasgow giants narrowly missed out on the Scottish Premiership title last season, but many supporters believe their challenge would have faded much earlier had it not been for the contribution of Moore during his loan spell.
The talented winger became an increasingly important figure as the campaign progressed. His pace, creativity and confidence in possession gave Rangers an extra dimension in attack, while his performances improved almost every week he spent in Scotland.
By the end of the season, Moore had established himself as one of the club’s standout performers and a player many fans hoped would return for another spell.
At the time, however, such a move appeared unlikely.
His impressive form at Ibrox seemed to have strengthened his chances of earning a more significant role at Tottenham, leading many to believe he would be integrated into the first-team picture in North London.
With pre-season approaching, that possibility still exists. Yet recent events at Spurs have opened the door to fresh speculation regarding Moore’s future and whether another move to Rangers could be possible.
Why Rangers Have Reasons for Optimism
During his time in Glasgow, Moore found himself in an environment where opportunities were readily available.
At Rangers, he became one of the focal points of the team’s attacking play and was trusted to make a difference in important moments. That level of responsibility accelerated his development and allowed him to showcase his potential on a regular basis.
The situation at Tottenham is considerably different.
The club possesses a wealth of young talent all competing for limited opportunities in the first team. Players such as Luka Vuskovic and Lucas Bergvall are among the highly-rated prospects looking to establish themselves at the Premier League club.
Breaking into that environment is a far greater challenge than becoming a regular starter at Rangers.
Interestingly, though, recent reports suggest that some of Tottenham’s younger players may not see a clear pathway into the senior side.
According to reports involving Sky Sports, Bergvall has reportedly made his intentions regarding his future known, with uncertainty surrounding his place under the current management structure.
Those developments may indicate a broader shift in Tottenham’s strategy.
Roberto De Zerbi’s Influence
A major factor behind the speculation is the influence of Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi.
The Italian coach has built a reputation for developing players, but there are growing suggestions that he wants a more experienced squad capable of delivering immediate results.
If that proves accurate, it could have significant consequences for younger players hoping to break through.
While Moore remains one of Tottenham’s brightest prospects, increased competition and a greater emphasis on experienced options could limit his opportunities in the short term.
For a player at such a crucial stage of development, regular football is essential.
Sitting on the bench or spending long periods outside the matchday squad would do little to aid his progress.
That reality could make another loan move the most sensible solution for all parties involved.
Tottenham would benefit from seeing Moore continue his development through consistent first-team football, while the player himself would gain valuable experience in a competitive environment.
Rangers, meanwhile, would welcome back a player who has already proven his value.
Why a Return to Ibrox Makes Sense
If Moore is made available for another loan spell, Rangers could emerge as one of the strongest candidates to secure his signature.
The winger already knows the club, understands the expectations and has enjoyed success playing in front of the Ibrox supporters.
That familiarity would remove many of the adjustment issues that often accompany loan moves.
Rather than spending months adapting to a new environment, Moore could immediately focus on building upon the progress he made during his previous spell.
The relationship between player and supporters also remains strong.
Many Rangers fans quickly embraced Moore due to his commitment, energy and willingness to take responsibility in key moments.
His performances created a connection that could make a return particularly appealing from the player’s perspective.
Additionally, Rangers would likely be able to offer him a prominent role once again.
With the club aiming to reclaim the Scottish Premiership title and compete strongly in Europe, Moore would have the opportunity to play meaningful matches on a regular basis.
That level of exposure could be highly attractive for a young player seeking further development.
Permanent Move Appears Unlikely
While another loan deal seems realistic, a permanent transfer is a completely different matter.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding Tottenham’s immediate plans for Moore, there is little indication that the club has lost faith in his long-term potential.
In fact, the opposite appears true.
The teenager remains one of the most highly regarded young talents within Tottenham’s academy system and is viewed as a player capable of making a significant impact in the future.
For that reason, the Premier League side are unlikely to entertain offers for a permanent sale.
Moore still has four years remaining on his current contract, placing Tottenham in a strong negotiating position and giving them no urgency to cash in.
The club can afford to be patient and continue overseeing his development through carefully selected loan spells if necessary.
Financial Obstacles Remain
Even if Tottenham were willing to discuss a permanent transfer, Rangers would face a substantial financial challenge.
Moore’s reputation has continued to grow thanks to his performances at both club and youth international level.
According to Transfermarkt, the winger currently carries an estimated market value of around £16 million.
For Rangers, that figure would represent a major investment and one that may be beyond their current financial capabilities.
While the club has shown ambition in the transfer market before, committing such a significant amount to a single player would be difficult to justify.
Particularly when Tottenham themselves are likely to value Moore even higher given his age and potential.
As a result, any realistic hopes of bringing him back to Glasgow are far more likely to involve a temporary arrangement rather than a permanent deal.
A Window of Opportunity
Although there is still plenty of uncertainty surrounding Moore’s future, recent developments at Tottenham have undoubtedly created fresh optimism among Rangers supporters.
The possibility that De Zerbi may favour experience over youth could limit opportunities for some of the club’s emerging talents, including Moore.
Should that happen, another loan move could become the most practical solution.
For Rangers, the situation is straightforward.
They already know what Moore can offer and understand how valuable he can be to the team.
His previous spell demonstrated his quality, and a return would be welcomed by many supporters eager to see him continue his development at Ibrox.
Whether Tottenham ultimately decide to keep him, loan him out or reassess his future later in the summer remains to be seen.
For now, however, Rangers appear to have been handed a reason to believe that a reunion with one of last season’s standout performers may not be as unrealistic as it once seemed.
