Jed Wallace has been immediately sold and is ‘extremely impressed’ by Bristol City.
Jed Wallace has revealed that deciding to join Bristol City was an easy choice after being thoroughly impressed by the conversations he held with Sporting Director James Ellis and First Team Manager Michael Skubala. The experienced winger explained that as soon as he became aware of the Robins’ interest, he knew it was the move he wanted to complete, believing the club offered everything he was looking for at this stage of his career.
The 32-year-old has officially signed a two-year contract with Bristol City following the end of his time at West Bromwich Albion. Bringing with him more than 350 Championship appearances, Wallace arrives with a wealth of experience that the Robins hope will strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign. His arrival continues Bristol City’s proactive recruitment during the summer transfer window, becoming the club’s fourth addition after goalkeeper Sam Tickle, midfielder Gibson Yah and forward Sam Greenwood.

Speaking after completing the move, Wallace admitted he was delighted to have finalised the transfer. He explained that once he discovered Bristol City wanted to sign him, he immediately viewed it as the destination he most wanted to pursue. The opportunity to join the club stood out above all other possibilities, making it his priority throughout the negotiations.
The winger described himself as both proud and excited to begin this new chapter of his career. He revealed that he had been aware of Bristol City’s interest for some time and was encouraged by every conversation he had with those leading the club’s football operations. Meetings with Sporting Director James Ellis and manager Michael Skubala left a particularly strong impression, reinforcing his belief that the Robins were the right club for him.
According to Wallace, the professionalism shown throughout the transfer process convinced him he was making the correct decision. From the initial discussions through to completing the deal, he felt everything was handled efficiently and professionally. Those experiences strengthened his confidence that Bristol City is a club with a clear direction and ambitious plans for the future.
Wallace also praised the wider structure surrounding Bristol City, explaining that Ellis highlighted many of the qualities he had already recognised during his previous visits to Ashton Gate as an opposition player. Having competed there numerous times over the years, Wallace was already familiar with the club’s impressive facilities and infrastructure.
He pointed to the investment made by the club’s ownership, noting that Bristol City now possesses an outstanding stadium and a first-class training ground. In his view, those facilities help make the Robins an attractive destination for players looking to compete in a professional environment while continuing to develop their careers.
Because of those existing impressions, Wallace admitted that Bristol City immediately appealed to him once formal interest emerged. He believes the club has built a strong reputation within the game, making it a place where many footballers would welcome the opportunity to play. That reputation, combined with the conversations he had during negotiations, removed any doubts he might have had about making the move.
After his discussions with Ellis, Wallace also spoke extensively with head coach Michael Skubala. The experienced winger was impressed by the work Skubala carried out before arriving at Bristol City, particularly his attacking philosophy and the success his previous side enjoyed in front of goal.
Wallace specifically highlighted the impressive number of goals Lincoln City scored under Skubala’s management, believing it reflected the coach’s positive approach to football. He expects Skubala to bring that same attacking mentality to Bristol City and hopes to play an important role within the system the manager is building.
Reflecting on those conversations, Wallace said the opportunity simply met every requirement he had when considering the next step of his career. The club’s ambition, facilities, leadership and footballing philosophy combined to create what he regarded as the ideal destination.
Looking ahead to the season, Wallace believes one of the most important priorities will be developing strong relationships within the squad. He stressed that spending time together and building unity among the players will be essential if Bristol City is to fulfil its potential during the long Championship campaign.
The winger feels the Robins have a genuine opportunity to achieve something significant this season, but he recognises that success will depend upon everyone working towards the same objective. Creating a positive team spirit, in his opinion, will be just as important as tactical preparation or individual quality.
Wallace also hopes his considerable experience can benefit the younger members of the squad. Having played well over 350 Championship matches, he understands the demands of one of the most competitive leagues in English football and wants to use that knowledge to support teammates who are still developing.
He believes experienced professionals have an important responsibility beyond their performances on the pitch. Offering guidance, encouragement and leadership inside the dressing room can make a significant difference over the course of a demanding season, particularly within a relatively youthful squad like Bristol City’s.
Wallace acknowledged that the Championship presents unique challenges because of its relentless schedule. With 46 league matches, plus potential cup competitions, maintaining consistency throughout the campaign is never straightforward. He explained that every season brings periods of success alongside inevitable setbacks, something he has learned through many years competing in the division.
Drawing on those experiences, Wallace believes senior players must help the squad remain focused whenever difficult moments arise. Keeping morale high, maintaining standards and ensuring everyone continues working towards the same goals will be vital if Bristol City hopes to compete near the top of the table.
The winger concluded by expressing genuine optimism about what lies ahead. He believes the squad has exciting potential and is eager to contribute both through his performances on the field and his leadership away from it. After being immediately convinced by the club’s vision, facilities and coaching staff, Wallace now looks forward to helping Bristol City build on last season and challenge strongly throughout what he expects will be another exciting and demanding Championship campaign.
