Former Blackburn Rovers striker dismissed by League Two side after disappointing start..
Former Blackburn Rovers striker Colin Kazim-Richards has been dismissed by Crawley Town following a disappointing opening to the League Two campaign.
The 40-year-old’s brief spell in charge came to an end after Crawley’s 3-2 home defeat against Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday evening, a result which left the club bottom of the League Two standings.
Kazim-Richards had taken over at Crawley in March, making the position his first opportunity to manage a professional club.
His initial task was to help the Sussex side avoid relegation, and he succeeded in keeping Crawley in the EFL at the end of last season.

However, the club’s form this term has deteriorated badly, with Crawley recording only one league victory from their first 10 matches.
They have suffered seven defeats during that period, leaving them at the foot of the table and prompting the club’s hierarchy to make a change in the dugout.
Kazim-Richards has now departed alongside assistant head coach Julian Gray, who has also been relieved of his responsibilities.
Crawley have also confirmed that director of football Erdem Konyar will leave the club as part of the changes behind the scenes.
The club released a statement confirming that both Kazim-Richards and Gray had been removed from their positions with immediate effect.
“Crawley Town Football Club can confirm that Head Coach Colin Kazim-Richards and Assistant Head Coach Julian Gray have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect,” the statement said.
It also confirmed Konyar’s departure, while acknowledging the contribution made by all three during their time at the club.
Crawley expressed particular appreciation for Kazim-Richards and Gray, noting that both had arrived during a difficult period and played an important role in helping the club preserve its EFL status at the end of the previous season.
The club also thanked Konyar for his efforts and commitment since returning to Crawley the previous year.
All three departures were accompanied by the club’s best wishes for their future careers.
Crawley added that it would not make any further comment at this stage.
Kazim-Richards’ departure will also be of interest to Blackburn Rovers supporters because two young Rovers players are currently gaining experience at Crawley.
Osman Kamara and Nick Michalski are both on loan at the Broadfield Stadium and will now find themselves working under a new manager following the club’s decision to make a change.
The decision came less than 24 hours after Kazim-Richards had spoken publicly about his position following the defeat to Shrewsbury.
Despite the poor results, the former Rovers forward remained convinced that he could help Crawley recover if he was given sufficient time.
Asked whether he believed he was still capable of turning the club’s fortunes around, Kazim-Richards told BBC Radio Surrey that he did.
However, he acknowledged that the decision over whether he would receive the necessary time was ultimately outside his control.
“I feel I can. If I’m given the time is another question. It’s not a question I can answer for you,” he said.
Kazim-Richards also identified experience as an important factor behind some of Crawley’s difficulties.
The former striker felt his young squad needed greater experience, particularly when it came to managing matches and dealing with difficult situations during games.
He suggested that better game management could have helped the team turn some of their performances into more positive results.
“I think we need a little bit more experience, a little bit in terms of game management and things like that. But we’ll see what happens, right?” he added.
One of the challenges facing Kazim-Richards was the need to introduce a significant number of inexperienced players to League Two football.
He revealed that he had handed out nine league debuts during his time in charge.
While he refused to use that as an excuse for Crawley’s poor start, he believed the lack of experience had contributed to some of the difficulties his side experienced.
Kazim-Richards stressed that young players cannot gain valuable experience without being given opportunities to play.
At the same time, he admitted that inexperienced players sometimes require additional guidance and support during difficult moments.
“I think I’ve given nine league debuts. That’s not an excuse and it’s not me getting at them – you can only get experience by doing it – but at certain times they need help with that, for sure,” he explained.
That challenge ultimately proved too difficult to overcome during his short spell in charge.
Kazim-Richards had arrived with the reputation of an experienced professional following a long playing career that included spells at several clubs in England and abroad, including Blackburn Rovers.
His move into management represented a new chapter in his career, and he initially achieved his primary objective by helping Crawley remain in the EFL.
However, the club’s disastrous start to the new campaign left the hierarchy with little choice but to act.
With only one victory from 10 league games and seven defeats already recorded, Crawley now face the task of appointing a new head coach while attempting to climb away from the bottom of the table.
For Kazim-Richards, the dismissal brings an early end to his first managerial appointment.
Despite the disappointing conclusion, his role in helping Crawley preserve their League Two status last season will remain an important part of his short managerial career.
Crawley will now look to appoint a new coaching team capable of reversing their fortunes, while Blackburn will also be monitoring the situation given that two of their young players are currently on loan at the club.
The immediate priority for Crawley is clear: stop the losing run, improve their game management and begin collecting points before the gap at the bottom of the League Two table becomes even more difficult to overcome.
