Rangers’ new fourth kit reportedly leaked, with an unseen design set to spark debate.
Rangers could be on the verge of unveiling a surprise fourth kit for the 2026-27 season, and if the latest leaked images are genuine, the design is likely to generate plenty of discussion among supporters.
The Glasgow club already have three official strips available for the current campaign, consisting of their traditional home shirt, an away design and a third-choice kit.
However, it is not unusual for Rangers to introduce an additional shirt during the season. Fourth kits have become increasingly common among major clubs, particularly when they are designed as limited-edition or alternative options rather than regular matchwear.
The timing would also make sense.
Rangers unveiled their now-famous orange strip around this period last year, with that particular design created to mark the 2000 Scottish Cup final.
That shirt was certainly unconventional and quickly became one of the more memorable Rangers kits of recent years.
Now, another unusual design could be on its way.
Images circulating online on Wednesday appear to show what could become Rangers’ fourth kit for the current season.
If the leaked pictures prove to be accurate, the new shirt is likely to produce a very different reaction from the club’s traditional blue home strip.
Rangers could unveil an ‘unexpected’ fourth shirt
Footy Headlines has published images of what it describes as an “unexpected new shirt” for Rangers.
The specialist kit website claims the design introduces a “never-seen-before aesthetic” for the club, with a striking combination of colours and an unusual quartered pattern.
The shirt shown in the leaked images features vibrant cyan alongside black, producing a look that is considerably more adventurous than the designs Rangers supporters are accustomed to seeing.
Rather than relying on the club’s traditional blue identity, the apparent fourth strip takes a completely different approach.
The shirt is divided into sections, giving it a distinctive quartered appearance.
That immediately makes it stand out from Rangers’ other 2026-27 shirts.
It is also the sort of design that could divide opinion among supporters.
Some Rangers fans have already questioned whether the images are genuine, while others have even wondered online if the shirt is simply a joke.
However, there may be more history behind the design than initially meets the eye.
Fourth kits are generally given much more freedom than home and away shirts because they are rarely required during the season.
They can therefore feature experimental colours, patterns and designs that would probably never be considered for a club’s main strips.
That appears to be the thinking behind this particular Rangers shirt.
Is there a throwback behind the design?
While the leaked 2026-27 version looks radically different from Rangers’ traditional colours, there is reportedly a historical connection.
The design bears similarities to an away shirt worn by Rangers during the 1996-97 campaign.
That previous shirt featured a quartered design, although its colour scheme was very different from the cyan and black combination shown in the latest leak.
The 1990s version used red and white sections, creating a distinctive look that was very much of its era.
There is another interesting connection between the two shirts.
Adidas was also Rangers’ kit manufacturer during the 1996-97 season.
The current leaked shirt therefore appears to combine an old Rangers design concept with a much more modern colour palette.
That could make the shirt particularly appealing to collectors if it is eventually confirmed as an official release.
The commercial details shown on the leaked image also appear to reflect the modern Rangers era.
The current sleeve sponsor, BOXT, is reportedly visible on the shirt.
That differs from the sponsorship displayed on the club’s older kits, including the 1996-97 version, which carried McEwan’s Lager across the front.
The leaked design also appears to have been produced with Rangers’ current commercial partners in mind, suggesting that the shirt could potentially be intended for an official release rather than simply being an unofficial concept.
Rangers have not confirmed the shirt
It is important to stress that supporters should treat the images with caution for now.
Rangers have not officially announced the fourth kit, meaning there is no confirmation from the club that the leaked shirt will actually be released.
The images currently circulating online are therefore not proof that this will be the final product.
Nevertheless, the timing of the leak has added credibility to the possibility.
With Rangers already having three kits for the season, a fourth design arriving around this point in the campaign would follow the pattern established last year.
The orange shirt released last October showed that Rangers are willing to experiment with alternative designs and colours when producing additional strips.
The latest leak appears to take that philosophy even further.
If the cyan-and-black quartered design does become official, it will undoubtedly be one of the most unconventional Rangers shirts in recent memory.
Whether supporters love it or hate it may ultimately be irrelevant if the club intends it to be a limited or occasional release.
Fourth shirts are often purchased as collector’s items rather than being judged solely on whether they fit a club’s traditional identity.
That could prove particularly relevant in this case.
A design that initially appears strange could become increasingly desirable over time, especially if it is produced in limited numbers and rarely worn during competitive fixtures.
For now, Rangers supporters will have to wait for official confirmation.
The club is yet to announce when the fourth strip will be launched, but if the leaked images are genuine, an unveiling could be approaching.
The unusual cyan and black colour combination, the quartered pattern and the apparent link to Rangers’ 1996-97 away shirt make this a particularly intriguing release.
It may not be everyone’s idea of a classic Rangers kit, but that is arguably what makes it stand out.
Should the shirt be confirmed, supporters will have the chance to decide whether the bold experiment has worked.
And if Rangers do eventually release it as expected, the unusual fourth kit could become a sought-after collector’s piece several years down the line.
