Rangers formally bid more than £6 million to sign a new player – Fabrizio Romano
According to Fabrizio Romano, Rangers’ official attempt to sign Almeria centre-back Kaiky was turned down.
On Friday, August 23, Romano wrote via his personal X account to report that the Gers had made a loan-to-buy offer for the Brazilian 20-year-old.
It is believed that the Light Blues made an offer that included a loan payment of £630,000, a £5.9 million permanent fee, and a 30% sell-on clause. Romano asserts that Almeria, who were demoted from La Liga the previous season, rejected the offer.
Rangers offer to buy Kaiky with a loan.
Romano omits to mention if the £5.9 million price was required or if Rangers’ offer for Kaiky contained an option to buy.
However, the former is more likely because Almara would naturally decline it if given the chance because they probably wouldn’t anticipate receiving that amount of money from the Light Blues.

The Ibrox club’s dearth of transfer funds has received a lot of attention this summer, as evidenced by the nearly total cessation of activity in recent weeks.
This is undoubtedly frustrating for Philippe Clement, who will likely need to let go of players before adding any.
Almeria most likely declined that offer because, even though they would receive a loan payment for Kaiky, they are unlikely to receive the full £5.9 million because it might be contingent on the Light Blues winning the Scottish Premiership and making it to the Champions League group stage.
Gers contemplate severing ties with Castore as David Edgar discloses the most recent merchandise deal
Rangers aren’t exactly the disarray of the early 21st century, but they’re not exactly cruising along smoothly either.
After the Light Blues switched from a contract with Hummell to one with Castor, a number of long-standing issues have been resolved, including the court case with Elite.
Sports Direct was also involved in legal action, but for the first time in a long time, the Rangers don’t have anything scheduled on the docket.
Rangers contemplating new alliances as the Castore deal draws to a close
Since this is the club’s fifth and final season working with Castore, a choice must be made regarding its retail and merchandising partner.
Given the legal disputes and the fact that Mike Ashley’s shadow hung over the team, Rangers were an unknown quantity in 2020.
But now that they are a well-established European team that frequently advances to the Europa League’s later stages and has regular expectations of taking home trophies, the Ibrox outfit is a given.
The cards are all in the hands of the Rangers.
Speaking on August 20, Heart and Hand’s Daily Update host David Edgar disclosed that remaining at Castore isn’t a guarantee:
The Rangers’ agreement with Castore expires in the summer of 2025, and from what I understand, they are going to tender it.
Although Rangers are a more appealing brand now that the Elite/Sports Direct legal dispute is behind us, Castore is still in a strong position to keep the business, so please don’t assume that means the team will be switching kit suppliers.
“And clearly, as of right now, we have a track record of selling kits that we didn’t really have without any problems, back in 2020.”
Today’s Update is out.
— Heart & Hand Podcast (@ibroxrocks) August 20, 2024
Since the Castore deal was signed, things haven’t always been easy.
Think back to the time of the agreement and the introduction of COVID-19.
Castore was a relatively new business that sold general sportswear and individual sportswear.
This was their first foray into football, and as company representative Tom Beahon told The Athletic, things didn’t exactly go as planned:
“When we announced the partnership at COVID, everyone was going crazy.”
On a Tuesday, your factory might call and inform you that the 250,000 units that were promised to arrive by Thursday are no longer available.
Like anything else, you have to adjust and work through the difficulties, but we definitely suffered some setbacks along the way. We resembled young players who were swiftly elevated to the first team.
“The designs themselves received good feedback, but distributing the quantity of kits into the market proved to be difficult at times. Nothing, in my opinion, could have prepared us for the onslaught of demands from Rangers supporters.
“We felt the full intensity of their fervent fan base, which is well-known.” When we sold out in a matter of hours, we realised that we may have underestimated the demand for the shirts, which was a classic case of “you don’t know what you don’t know.” We had ordered what we thought would be a really good number of shirts that would satisfy demand for the first six months of the partnership.
Though there have occasionally been teething issues over the years, kit leaks have generally been rare, with the exception of a few that occur right before release.
It’s no longer possible to complain about the range’s size, unless you believe there is too much of it, and questions regarding quality have subsided.
Whatever the brand, the primary goal is to secure the kind of agreement that will enable the Rangers to increase revenue and set new records.
Rangers may sell their fire star as a football finance expert makes a claim about a player trading model
When Rangers’ Jefte was sent off against Dynamo Kyiv, Philippe Clement lost almost all of the money that would have given him a chance to make a move for a new player.
It’s hard for the manager to get new players when they have to sell existing ones first. They know how big the job is and how important it is to cut down on player salaries.
Players who are making a lot of money but not doing their job—is it any wonder it’s been hard to sell them?
After the Champions League loss, a financial expert makes a transfer claim for Rangers.
According to Adam Williams, a football finance expert who spoke exclusively to Rangers News, the Gers boss’s immediate plans shouldn’t change because they didn’t make it into the Champions League:
“The Europa League is worth about £25m less from the start, which will affect their budget for hiring players.”
As far as this season’s budget goes, though, the board will have planned for that and been working with the worst-case scenario in mind.
“If they had made it to the next round of the Champions League, the budget might have been increased to match.”
“They made about £84 million when they got to the group stage in 2022–23.” It was more than that when they played in the Europa League in 2021–22, but that year they made it to the final.
“We can’t really compare this season’s finances to any other in the past few years because the last time they had a “average” Europa League season, it was because of the pandemic.”
“But for what it’s worth, I don’t think this will necessarily have an effect on sales for Rangers who trade players.” Those things were going to happen anyway, and Rangers aren’t suddenly in a spot where they need to sell players they had planned to keep.
“In the past few years, the club has lost a lot of players for free who were once worth a lot of money.”
“They must know that they can’t keep acting that way in the future, especially since their chances of making money are pretty uncertain because of how important it is to qualify for the Champions League.”
Rangers are still stuck in a transfer stalemate.
Williams is right. It won’t be necessary to quickly sell a player like Jack Butland to make up for lost money, and the manager has said that the player is essential.
A lot of players, from last season and the year before, were not good enough and should be sold.
That list is still the same.
If Rangers could make more money, that would be great. The Champions League would have given them more freedom to negotiate fees for players they wanted to sell.
When Philippe Clement took over, he took over a squad that had a high wage bill because too many players were sitting on the bench or in the stands getting paid the same amount as starters.
Add Todd Cantwell, Kieran Dowell, and Tom Lawrence to the list of people who were paid good amounts of money, like Ben Davies (£4m), Rabbi Matondo (£2.5m), and Ianis Hagi (£3m).
That’s a lot of money for these six players in terms of fees and wages.
Lawrence has played almost every minute, but from the important number 10 spot, he hasn’t scored any goals or set up many others.
Clement will have money to spend, but he won’t be able to spend it with the team right now. He should also get any new money that comes in before the transfer window closes.
Even though Rangers were kicked out of the Champions League, nothing has changed.
Still, this doesn’t make the job easier.
Rangers boss Philippe Clement wants frozen-out flops to leave but won’t put a “gun to their heads.” Watch the press conference to find out more
Clement says that some players are still at Ibrox even though they know they don’t have a future there.
Rangers manager Philippe Clement says he needs to get some players to leave before he can make any more signings. However, he won’t be putting a “gun to their head” to get them to leave.
The last two weeks of the transfer window are almost over, and Rangers fans are getting impatient because there haven’t been any big deals lately. They think they need to strengthen to keep up with Celtic. Clement said earlier this summer that he needs players to leave before he can bring in more players. He already has eight new players. To get into the Champions League, the budget may have gone up, which changed that. But now that they know it will be the Europa League in September, Clement says he still needs to sell before buying.
Ianis Hagi, Todd Cantwell, and other players are on the cutting room floor. There was also interest in James Tavernier from Saudi Arabia, but it seems to have died down recently. When asked if he still had to sell something before he could buy something else, Clement was honest and said that he was still limited by his budget.
Clement said, “Yes, that’s right.” “Some of them have known for a long time, but they’re still in the building.” That makes things harder. But things are the way they are. I can’t use a gun to force them to leave the building. Also, that’s not the point.
“That’s what I said about everything else.” I can’t do anything about it. That doesn’t bother me, so I don’t put any effort into it. It’s all about the players who are here. The people who are coming. To get the next result. That’s where all the power is.
Danny Murphy explains to Rangers supporters why the loss to Dynamo Kyiv should make them happy
Danny Murphy contended that Rangers’ failure to qualify for the Champions League might actually be a “blessing” for the team and its supporters.
Tuesday, August 13, saw the Gers lose 2-0 against Dynamo Kyiv at Hampden Park, sending them out of the third qualifying round 3-1 overall.
A loss means missing out on a potential windfall of up to £50 million if they had advanced to the competition proper, in addition to an immediate windfall of £4 million [Scottish Daily Mail, August 12].
Murphy, a former midfielder for Liverpool, thinks competing in the Europa League might have more benefits than just one.
“Yes, [it’s a blessing] from a footballing standpoint,” he stated on talkSPORT [August 14, 10:12 am]. “They’re attempting to close the distance with Celtic.
“They would face far tougher competition in the Champions League, which would undermine their confidence as they would drop more games.
Though supporters would rather see them in the Champions League, they can still succeed in the Europa League, so that may be a benefit. It would have been challenging to compete in that tournament as well as to face Celtic every week in the league.
“Rangers would have gone into the Champions League, like Celtic will, and it’ll be written about how they’re not winning games, how Scottish teams are not progressing,” co-host Simon Jordan concurred. They’ve been kind to themselves.
Rangers are required. Football in the Champions League
Although there is some validity to these remarks—the Gers have demonstrated that they have a genuine chance of winning the Europa League—the team was in dire need of the revenue that Champions League play brings in.
Celtic’s financial situation is already superior, and it will only get worse from here. This setback will mean that the rebuild taking place at Ibrox will not have as much financial support.
Supporters of Rangers are acutely aware of the team’s current situation: they will not win the Champions League. But, as is now known, reaching the league stage would have greatly improved the atmosphere.
Rather, it will be an additional season in UEFA’s secondary competition, and Clement’s team must perform exceptionally well in it. However, it is crucial that the Gers stay ahead of Celtic in the title race before that can begin.
Paul Merson exclaimed, “Come on,” after witnessing the Rangers’ defeat at the hands of Dynamo
Paul Merson was taken aback when Jefte received a red card during Rangers’ Champions League qualifying match loss to Dynamo Kyiv.
When the summer signing tried to win an aerial ball and caught his opponent with his arm, he was given a second yellow card.
Even though Jefte was already on the verge of being sent off for the first time before halftime, the decision to bench the Brazilian was unexpected.
“Oh come on,” Merson could be heard saying as Kris Boyd made his decision live on Sky Sports News on August 13, at 8:56 p.m.
“It’s never a yellow card in your life,” Boyd continued. To jump, you must extend your arms.
“To be honest, I have no idea where the game has disappeared if that is a yellow card.”
Rangers are justified in being incensed over Jefte’s decision.
It made sense that Jefte would be upset about the decision to send him off. Some might argue that it wasn’t even a free kick, much less a second booking.
The referee ought to have spoken up at the very least and cautioned him. If that had been the case, no one would have been complaining.

Though he was already on a yellow card, many will question why Philippe Clement chose not to substitute him at the halfway point.
Instead, as Vaclav Cerny entered the stage, Ross McCausland was sacrificed, and that ultimately came back to haunt Clement when Jefte was dismissed.
The full-time outcome was definitely influenced by that dismissal, even though the Gers did a good job of holding Dynamo at bay for the most of the game.
Despite all the talk about choices evening out over the season, the Gers will lose millions of dollars as a result of this costly error.
Rangers loanee Philippe Clement wanted to purchase spotted at stadium with fresh interest
For Philippe Clement, who is rebuilding at Rangers, the transfer window has been challenging.
After their season began with a 1-1 draw against Hearts, the Glasgow giants secured a vital three points against Motherwell on Saturday afternoon.
Once more, finishing their chances proved to be challenging against Motherwell with Rangers still unconvinced by Cyriel Dessers.
Rangers’ shopping list included a new centre-forward, but they have thus so far failed to satisfy Clement.
While HITC verified Lyndon Dykes has also been taken into consideration this summer, Lawrence Shankland has been the club’s top striker target.
After Kemar Roofe left and Fabio Silva returned to Wolves following his loan term, Rangers have been short in the striker area.
Clement said he would have preferred to sign Silva on a permanent contract rather than a loan, but at the time Rangers couldn afford him.
£35 million flop seen at stadium under demand.
During his loan, Silva only scored six goals for Rangers; he did not particularly win over the Ibrox supporters while he was in Scotland.
After failing to settle at the Premier League team, he is now seeking a way out of Wolves this summer; reports indicate he is getting close to a move to Italy.
O Jogo claims that Genoa, a Serie A team, are interested in a move for Silva since they have long-term interest in him going back from last December.
Silva has also been connected with a return to Portugal and posted on Saturday on Instagram stating he was at Porto’s Estadio do Dragao to see their game against Gil Vicente.
Silva began his career at Porto then signed for Wolves for £35million, breaking club records.
Silva will definitely move on this summer, thus a comeback to Rangers is quite unlikely.
Though time is running short before the window slams close at the end of August, Clement still needs a new striker.
Rangers must reach into their pocket and sign a new centre-forward; else, their title challenge could be ended before it ever started.
Report: Rangers’ departure is imminent, with a possible £4.2 million deal to be completed
It was inevitable that one of the Rangers’ out-of-favour players would leave Ibrox before the transfer window closed.
It has become abundantly clear over the past two weeks. But even though the question isn’t “if,” it is unquestionably “when.”
According to reports from Greece last Friday, Jose Cifuentes was scheduled to finalise his transfer from Rangers to Aris Thessaloniki “immediately.”
Maybe, on the shores of the Aegean Sea, “immediately” means something different. Since Cifuentes is still a Rangers player after a week. In theory, at least; the Ecuadorian international is presently on loan at Cruzeiro in Brazil.
So, the question is: When will Cifuentes’ identity as an Aris player finally be revealed?
Rangers haven’t let go of Jose Cifuentes yet.
After Rangers’ match against Motherwell at Fir Park, which has gone on longer than many would have liked, Cifuentes may formally leave within 24 hours, according to Nova Sport, the most recent outlet to comment on the situation.
According to Nova Sport, Cifuentes is expected to land in Greece before Sunday.
Before signing a contract that will see him depart the Glasgow giants on an initial loan deal, he probably has to go through medical testing.
Concerns have been raised regarding whether Cifuentes’ Aris agreement will contain a “obligation” or a “option-to-buy” clause.
In either case, Rangers will have made a sizable profit on a player who arrived from Los Angeles FC for £1.2 million last summer with high expectations but struggled to establish a spot in the starting lineup. That is, assuming he ends up staying in the team permanently.
Gers to profit handsomely from Ibrox misfit
According to All About Aris, Cifuentes might cost Aris an astounding £4.2 million.
This would be another excellent deal, having recovered nearly all of the money they paid for Sam Lammers when the forward joined FC Twente. A £3 million profit on a player who made nine Premiership appearances without scoring or setting up a goal.
According to reports, Cifuentes will also become the highest paid player in Aris’ history, taking home pay that could reach £24,000 per week, or “crazy.”
As nine new players arrived this summer—Connor Barron, Jefte, and Vaclav Cerny are already making an impression—significant outgoings were always anticipated at Ibrox. Before the window closes, Todd Cantwell and Ianis Hagi will also be permitted to leave in addition to Cifuentes.
Hagi’s exclusion from Clement’s starting lineup for the 1-1 Champions League qualifying match against Dynamo Kiev revealed that the Romanian playmaker is not in Clement’s lineup.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Rangers are reportedly prepared to rip up Hagi’s contract in its last year.
When asked if Hagi would play a role in 2024–2025 on the Rangers’ official YouTube channel, Clement replied, “No.” “We had obviously discussed that with him and his representatives prior to the preseason.
“With the club, there are many things we need to consider. Regarding salaries, regarding the number of players that can be placed in a position given our budget, and obtaining funding for transfers.
It is abundantly evident that the idea is to make a sale. That was also his desire. Thus, that is the evident circumstance.
Premier League player’s succinct Instagram reply to a Rangers player ignites the transfer rumour
Huge props to the Rangers squad for drawing their Champions League qualifying match against Dynamo Kiev.
Though Cyriel Dessers’ last-minute equaliser in the Champions League QR3 match has the game poised at 1-1, it’s evident that the Ibrox side knows that the job isn’t done yet.
Rangers put on a strong show, and the outcome and their play have given fans hope that they can win the nearly £30 million that is being offered in exchange for Champions League qualification.
Additionally, a player in Abdallah Sima, whose ability to play again at Ibrox may depend on such a windfall, has just commented on Instagram.
In response to Diomande, Sima
For Rangers, Mohamed Diomande is starting to establish himself as a vital midfield player.
The Ivorian technician is quickly rising to the top of the team sheet at Ibrox, having covered every blade of grass in Poland.
After the game, the West African midfielder took to Instagram to reassure supporters that the “job’s not finished,” with all of his attention focused on defeating Dynamo in Glasgow the following week.
View this post on Instagram
However, one of the post’s comments is what will really get Rangers supporters excited.
Through his official account, Abdallah Sima responded to Mohamed Diomande, aka “Mon Gars,” receiving nearly 400 likes as of this writing.
Rangers has made it very evident that they want to bring the Senegalese forward back to Glasgow, even though the Brighton forward is currently back at the south coast club.
Champions League improves Sima’s search
The remarks made by Abdallah Sima coincide with an intriguing window for Rangers in the transfer market.
Rangers have two distinct plans for the remaining portion of the window, depending on whether the team makes it into the Champions League, as Philippe Clement has made clear.
This implies that the players the Rangers target before the trade deadline closes will depend on the European competitions they participate in this year.
Similar to Hannibal Mejbri, a move for Abdallah Sima might be contingent upon Champions League qualification.
When Sima and the Belgian spoke about the situation earlier in the summer, Gers manager Clement made a hint to that effect.
Naturally, I’ve been in contact with him, Clement stated in July.
He resembles one of my boys. Abda is a huge club fan. Abda is a huge fan of the style of play we had the previous season and his part in it. He cherished the staff and his teammates.
However, since Brighton is ultimately the owner, everything revolves around the money. It is not feasible at this time.
However, we would be happy to have him returned, so we will keep an eye out for any opportunities along the way. We’ll investigate if it’s feasible.
Despite sustaining a serious injury at the beginning of the season, Abdallah Sima scored 16 goals in 39 games for the Rangers last season.
In Rangers’ debut against Dynamo Kyiv, Ferguson delivers the Jefte verdict live on BBC Sportsound
Derek Ferguson gave his assessment of Jefte, the new signing for the Rangers, calling the Brazilian “excellent” during Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Dynamo Kyiv.
In May, Jefte, 20, signed a four-year contract from Fluminense, with Rangers contributing an additional £2 million.
Ferguson’s commendation follows the left-back’s halftime substitution for Scott Wright during the Gers’ Champions League qualifying match against the Ukrainians in Poland.
Ferguson stated the following when speaking on BBC Sportsound on August 6, 20:05: “There was a lot of talk before the game about Jefte starting ahead of Scott Wright.”
“He’s fantastic; he possesses strength and speed, and I felt Yilmaz and Jefte would make a good combination.”
Jefte might declare his intention to start the upcoming Rangers game.
The Brazilian didn’t start the match, but Phillipe Clement has no excuse to overlook him when they play Motherwell on August 10.
The left side of the pitch was much more stable as soon as he entered the game, and he provided Yilmaz with a lot of assistance.
The left-back was a long-term target for the team and signed with them close to the opening of the summer transfer window.
He is one of the few additions that, along with Connor Barron’s, could genuinely affect the starting lineup for the Giants.
Connor Barron is Rangers’ newest midfield signing this summer, on a free transfer from Aberdeen
In addition to being a younger alternative to Borna Barisic, the left-back’s versatility as a winger further enhances his skill set.
While the Gers’ performance against Dynamo fell short of expectations, Clement might have a better chance of winning if Shoukd Jefte were given the starting nod against Motherwell.
Spotted: Clement gets a “Major” injury boost while training with the Rangers before their match against Kyiv
Ahead of Rangers’ UEFA Champions League qualifying match against Dynamo Kyiv, Dujon Sterling has been spotted in training.
The Scottish Sun published an image on August 5th, which indicates that Philippe Clement has benefited from a “major” injury boost. Sterling, who was not available for the Hearts match over the weekend, is expected to play against the Ukrainian team.
On August 6, Gers and Dynamo Kyiv play at Arena Lublin, where the 24-year-old may play in his first game of the year.
Dujon Sterling is anticipated to be the Rangers’ first-choice right-back.
The possibility of Sterling getting back to full fitness before the Kyiv qualifier is a huge plus for the team.
The 24-year-old’s addition to the team may result in him playing right back, particularly in light of captain James Tavernier’s recent defensive shortcomings and reports that he may be leaving. [Edward David]
There have been calls for a more defensively sound option because Tavernier, despite his attacking prowess, has been criticised for his defensive performances.
With his versatility and defensive prowess, Sterling might be able to help the Rangers with their defensive problems.
In addition to meeting the team’s immediate defensive needs, his possible start in the next league match or against Dynamo Kyiv would offer a long-term solution at right back.
James Tavernier has had a stellar Rangers career
As a result, Tavernier might take on a more senior role or offer options for rotation, making the team more competitive and well-rounded.
Rangers’ injury worries grow as the reported £4m transfer decision is looked at more closely
Philippe Clement, the manager of Rangers, promised fans that players would get hurt after he got his feet under the desk at Ibrox.
It shocked the former manager of Club Brugge what he found in Glasgow: a physically undercooked team that was regularly wiped out by problems.
Rangers have changed the medical staff and the way the club prepares for the season. Clement confirmed that “injury prevention work” has been a big focus this summer, and there was new hope that the club’s struggling medical department would get better.
Rangers had a rough preseason, and just 90 minutes into the new season, there are already signs that the Ibrox injury curse isn’t quite over.

Rangers get two injuries in a row
Rangers started their pre-season with a friendly match against Ajax. It was great to see Nikolas Raskin in the game.
The Belgian moved to Rangers about 18 months ago, but injuries have made his time in Glasgow, which started out so well, very difficult.
Raskin was the first player to cause concern at Ibrox this season when he went down after a hard challenge in the first half in Holland.
After being told Raskin would be out for six weeks, Rangers fans have heard it all before. He will now return sometime in September. We’re not going to hold our breath.
When Hearts played the first game of the Scottish Premiership season, having Colombian winger Oscar Cortes back in the team was a good sign.
The 20-year-old joined the club on loan in January. He got off to a good start, but an injury in February ended his season at Rugby Park.
In six months, the winger was hurt when he got into a fight with Hearts right back Gerald Taylor right before halftime.
When the kid first came out for the second half, he pulled up before being taken off, and Cortes left the pitch in tears.
We don’t know how bad the injury is yet, but Rangers fans will not be happy if he gets hurt again in the next year since they just agreed to pay £4 million to sign the attacker from RC Lens.
Ibrox’s great utility player Dujon Sterling hasn’t been seen since the 2-0 loss to Manchester United in a friendly, but he might be able to play against Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday.
Can Rangers get their expensive team in shape?
And these are scary signs that Rangers are still a long way from making their team strong enough to handle the tough games in Scotland.
Raskin and Cortes have had trouble adjusting to how tough and physical the league is. That’s about £5.5 million spent on players who haven’t been able to contribute consistently because of injuries.
It’s something that happens all the time in the squad.
But there is some reason to be optimistic, if that’s what you want to call it.
Philippe Clement stressed that many players on the team have finally had a full, physical pre-season after being hurt for years.
Before the game with Hearts, Clement told the press, “We already saw fewer injuries this pre-season.”
“There were a few players who hadn’t played in a full preseason in the past couple of years but did so now.”
“Does that mean we automatically won’t get hurt?”
The body can’t be changed in five or six weeks, so no, that’s not what’s going on. A few of them are already stronger, but there is still more work to be done.
This is about players like Kieran Dowell, Rabbi Matondo, Tom Lawrence, and Ben Davies, who will say they still have a lot to prove at Rangers.
Even though they may finally be healthy, we don’t think they’re good enough to lead Rangers to where they need to be.
That’s true even though Salary Sport says these four players make up about £4.5m of the club’s annual wage bill.
Danilo, a Brazilian striker who wasn’t used against Hearts, has also come back after a long knee injury, but we won’t say anything until he starts playing games.
