After the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl loss, Patrick Mahomes names who is to blame
Despite his best efforts, Patrick Mahomes was unable to lead the Kansas City Chiefs to victory in Super Bowl LIX, losing 40-22 to the Philadelphia Eagles.
After the game, the star quarterback accepted responsibility for the loss while acknowledging the Eagles’ superiority.
“I mean, give credit to the Eagles, man. “They played better than us from start to finish,” Mahomes stated. “We didn’t start the way we wanted. Obviously, turnovers hurt, and I accept full responsibility for them.
“I mean, those early turnovers shifted the momentum of the game, and they capitalised on them. They scored on the first play and then got a touchdown right after, so I gave them 14 points, which is difficult to recover from in the Super Bowl.”
It was a difficult day for Mahomes, who threw two interceptions, including a pick-six, leaving the Chiefs chasing a significant deficit from early on.
“Just didn’t play to my standards, and I have to be better next time,” he said, as this loss brought his Super Bowl record to 3-2.
Tom Brady, a FOX sports announcer and Super Bowl icon who recently signed a staggering 10-year, $375 million contract with the network, was in the broadcast booth for Sunday’s game, offering words of encouragement to Mahomes.
“I remember when I lost to the Giants in 2007, I got on the bus after the game, it was just devastating, I couldn’t speak for the rest of the night,” Brady laughed.
“I just remember waking up and realising it was a nightmare; that game did not happen. It’s a difficult feeling to have, but if anyone can recover, it’s Patrick Mahomes.
Despite the loss, Chiefs coach Andy Reid was still proud of Mahomes and the team’s overall performance. “Today was a tough day all around. Nothing went correctly. I did not coach well. “I am proud of our guys for fighting,” he admitted.
