Alexander Isak outlined the steps he needs to do to remove the $169 million Liverpool price tag

On the day of the transfer deadline, Liverpool broke the British record by paying $169 million (£125 million) to acquire Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.

Stan Collymore, who paid a then-record £8.5 million ($11.5 million) to join Liverpool in 1995, has shared his thoughts on how Alexander Isak can help people forget the high price that his move brought in this summer.

Isak played a strong game against Diego Simeone’s team on his Champions League debut for Liverpool against Atletico Madrid. He might play in the Merseyside derby again this weekend, and he will want to make an impression as soon as possible to earn the price tag.

“I think that the difference between breaking the transfer record 30 years ago and now is that it’s hard to adjust for inflation and work out how similar the deals were,” Collymore stated.

“An inflation-adjusted value for all the moves, calculated by Kieran Maguire, shows that Alan Shearer moved to Newcastle for £250 million ($338 million), whereas I moved to Liverpool for possibly £216 million ($293 million). As a result, my transfer fee was a huge outlier at the time, unlike Isak’s.

“At the time, I was shattering the previous season’s record of £7.0 million ($9.5 million) for Andy Cole to Manchester United, and possibly Roy Keane from Nottingham Forest to Manchester United before that.

The rises were more like leaps back then, the equivalent of moving from £150 million to £300 million (about $200 million to $400 million) in a season or two, even though there are now some incremental hikes.

However, at this point, I don’t believe that [the transfer fee’s amount] is important. In news conferences and at games, players are less frequently questioned about their fees. Additionally, managers are rarely questioned about it; instead, the emphasis is on how well the player is integrating.

“That’s because we’re accustomed to the Premier League’s incredible wealth. Those exorbitant prices are everywhere. The top 20 players in the Premier League have all made significant purchases. When Birmingham was in the third division, they spent £10 million ($13 million) on Jay Stansfield.

“In England, significant fees are standard. Take a look at the elite German, Italian, and Spanish teams that are finding it difficult to match the expenditure of English lower league teams.

During his 58 minutes on the pitch against Atletico Madrid, Isak put up a strong effort and connected nicely with Florian Wirtz. Collymore adds that there is no question about his success.

“All Isak really needs to do is to get fit,” Collymore went on in an interview with 10bet Casino. “That is the main issue. And he needs to get started right away because Liverpool supporters will forget about all the antics with Newcastle if he does.
