Alica Schmidt prepares to participate in a new event at the national championships
Alica Schmidt stated her delight about competing in a new event at the National Indoor Championships. The German athlete has disclosed that she will compete in the 800m at the National Games in Helmut-Körnig-Halle, Dortmund, as part of a changeover in events for the 2025 track season.
Schmidt opted to follow her long-held goal of participating in the 800 metres immediately after the Paris Olympics ended. She turned to social media to explain that she made the decision back in 2022. She was only waiting for the ideal moment to begin on her new adventure, following the quadrennial games in the French capital.
Schmidt opted to attend a high-altitude training camp in South Africa to prepare for the 800m. The German athlete frequently shared peeks of her training sessions and pleasant times with the squad on social media. She made her season debut in the 800m at the 12th Erfut Athletics meeting on January 31, 2025, at Hartwig-Gauder-Halle, Germany.
As she prepares to compete in the forthcoming National Games, she turned to Instagram to express her enthusiasm for her presence, writing:
“Nationals this weekend 🔥 & this time over the 800m 👀❤️🔥”

Schmidt was thrilled to participate in a new event early in the 2025 season, in addition to her favourite 400m race. However, she acknowledged that she had a long way to go to achieve her ambitions. The 26-year-old athlete emphasised her eagerness to compete in the remainder of the track season and, perhaps, improve her performance over time.
“800m debut in the books 🙌🏼.” To be honest, I’m not where I wanted to be; there’s still a long way to go, but I understand it’s all part of the process. I’m very eager for this adventure and every race that will offer me experience! I’m grateful to my team for always having each other’s back. She tweeted, “Next race on Tuesday 💪🏼.”
