Aleksander Aamodt Kilde is thrilled by the idea of competing in a fourth Olympics in 2026. The Norwegian skiing star believes he is nearing the end of a two-year injury nightmare and can finally look forward. Kilde highlighted the importance of fiancé Mikaela Shiffrin in his recuperation. The Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina will be shown live on TNT Sports and Discovery+ in February.

Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, a Norwegian skiing standout, hopes to focus on the Winter Olympics in February now that he has recovered from his injuries.

The Olympics in Milano Cortina are just 100 days away, with extensive coverage on TNT Sports and Discovery+. Kilde believes the Olympics’ uniqueness is what makes them so great.

Kilde also discussed how helpful his fiancé, Mikaela Shiffrin, has been over the last two years.

The 33-year-old suffered a shoulder injury in a mishap in Wengen in January 2024, and further complications included acquiring sepsis, which he previously described as a “matter of life and death”.

Kilde is on his way back to full fitness. And, prior of the Olympics, he was asked what makes the Games so spectacular.

“The fact it’s held every fourth year makes a huge difference, that’s what actually makes it special,” Kilde told TNT Sports during the event.

“It’s bigger, it’s global, and it outperforms the World Cup. We’re lucky to have such a large World Cup. The Olympics are hardly the only event we have. It makes it slightly easier to be an alpine skier.

“I think with the Olympics being every four years, it’s always going to be special, and now having it back in Europe, I’m very excited about that – and in Italy, which is even better.”

Kilde heaped appreciation on Shiffrin, saying, “She has been a rock in this situation.” She has also faced issues as a result of her crashes.

“I feel like we can be there for each other, which is fantastic since we both know exactly what we need.

“She provides me the space I need. I give her space; our relationship’s give-and-take culture is extremely vital.

“She is always an inspiration to me, the way she tackles things and the tenacity she possesses. I truly admire what she does.”

Kilde has competed in three Winter Olympics, winning two medals at the 2022 Beijing Games: silver in the combined and bronze in the super-G.

Kilde is now looking forward to a fourth Games, having reflected on how his recovery from injury has stretched him both physically and mentally.

“It’s definitely been a mix of both,” Kilde said. “I believe that the confusion and questions I had made it more difficult mentally at first.

“Will the nerves come back? Is the shoulder ever going to be useful in my life, despite all of the questions I’ve asked myself? It was quite difficult mentally.

“The physical part has been difficult, but I’ve just stayed to the process, been patient, and that remains the case.

“I’m not 100% yet, but I do feel some progress now that has been stagnant for the last few months.”

“The last couple of weeks have been very positive.”
