Billy Corgan, Tom Morello, Danny Carey, and more. Covering Judas Priest’s “Breaking The Law” at Black Sabbath’s Back to the Beginning performance
Black Sabbath’s “Back To The Beginning” event is proving to be more than simply a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath; it is a celebration of rock music in general. The performance allowed listeners to experience the glory days of rock with its numerous covers of popular songs from the 1970s and 1980s. British Steel’s supergroup cover of Judas Priest’s legendary 1980 hit “Breaking the Law” exemplifies this well. The great lineup featured Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins, K.K. Downing of Judas Priest, Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine, and Adam Jones and Danny Carey of Tool. The group performed three songs together. The first song was Judas Priest’s “Breaking Law,” followed by a version of Ozzy Osbourne’s 1981 classic “Flying High Again” from the Diary of a Madman album. The supergroup’s final cover was of Aerosmith’s 1975 song “Walk This Way” from the album Toys in the Attic.

Prior to the aforementioned supergroup, another supergroup, or super-trio, hit the stage. Drummers Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Danny Carey of Tool, and Travis Barker of blink-182 competed onstage during Black Sabbath’s “Symptom of the Universe.” The three’s footage is available below. Finally, following two great performances by supergroups, Pantera took their time to fire up the crowd. According to Metal Injection, the band performed four songs, two of which were Black Sabbath covers. Pantera performed “Cowboys From Hell” and “Walk” from their own catalogue. Then they performed Black Sabbath’s “Planet Caravan” and “Electric Funeral.” Those who want to be a part of the action but were unable to attend the event are in luck, as the official “Back to the Beginning” livestream is now available for purchase.
